Seriously, they should have got INTO the game to be able to make a decent critic. It's a matter of like what, 3 hours?
I remember someone on a blog who made a ranting about how people say that anime x is bad without having watched it, the ranting person said something like "You have to watch at least 3 episodes before even trying to criticize anime x". Something that I cannot be reproached for because, for all fandoms I've dared criticizing this far, I made the decent effort to get INTO those fandoms.
But at least I'm glad I can't receive G4 where I live. If that can reassure you, not all videogame channels are like this, our national gaming channel GameOne made an
impartial report about the musical gaming trend in Japan, and the genre was presented as something to be considered, not as an "alien thing reserved for otakus only". They even started off their expose by saying that Japanese people are very fond of music games, since they have created... karaoke!
