Desktop Arcade Pop'n Music ASC review One of the most unusual and "hard to find" game in the Bemani series is Pop'n Music. Unless you live in Japan or near one of the very few locations in the US, the chances of you getting to play are slim to none. However, there is way to enjoy the full experience of Pop'n Music from your own home. The Desktop Arcade Pop'n Music arcade style controller gives you the full experience of the arcade from the comfort of your living room. With it's custom designs, home built craftsmanship, and long lasting durability, this arcade controller will having you playing like a champ in no time.
How close is it to the arcade experience though? If you're a regular arcade goer, you know that nothing beats the real arcade experience. The feel of the Desktop Arcade controller differs just slightly from the real thing. The buttons seem to have a click, or a press here and there that may not feel as comfortable to you if you're use to an arcade machine, but nothing major or something the "home players" will notice. The sound of the Desktop Arcade controller is also very loud. This isn't too different then the arcade, but you may find it hard to play at night if you live near early sleeping neighbors. For those who may share a house with more people, it may even become a nuisance to those around you.
One other factor that may effect your game play is the placement of your television. The controller works best on a sturdy surface where you can stand to play, though, sitting works just as well. The availability of a strong surface to play on may cause problems when first starting out, but a cheap keyboard stand works wonders for those with no other option. However, depending on the keyboard stand, there may be times when the controller wobbles back and forth and you may not try as hard out of fear of knocking it over.
The durability of these controllers is nothing less than excellent. It can take a hit, scratch, or even fall and still go strong. When first testing you may be hesitant to apply too much pressure, but it'll be just a few rounds before you start smacking like crazy. One fault, as with any arcade style controller, is the durability of the micro switches in your controller. Have no fear though, along with your Desktop Arcade controller comes plenty of extra micro switches! Taking the bottom of the controller off isn't anything to hassle with and switching a micro switch is as easy as "plug and unplug".
If you're looking for something to call your own, Desktop Arcade also provides wonderful custome paint jobs. There's also a few other modifications, such as adding lights, which can be added on for a reasonable price.
Ready to play at home? Well you better be committed, because these controllers can cost anywhere from $200 to $250. Also, being that Desktop Arcade is a home business, expect anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before you're able to receive your very own controller. No worries though, there is always the "mini" controller to hold you over until you get your hands on your very own, custom built, Pop'n Music arcade style controller.
Though it may be difficult to find a good time to play, or you may want the sturdiness of the arcade, the Desktop Arcade controller does not fail to deliver. If you don't have a local machine near you, or you just want to improve those scores, the Desktop Arcade style controller is a perfect solution to begin “Tap'n and Slap'n“!
