I think a big assumption in Japan is that every person will be amazingly good at bemani. In my opinion they are all cult games for the most part and when I was in Japan(Okinawa and a bit in tokyo) I saw mostly pros plays. I was surprised to see almost noone play singles on a IIDX machine(only saw two I think >_>). Almost all of the bemani were occupied by at least decent players but i'm sure like here ther are beginners that pass by if they aren't scared off.

Was the class mode unlocks that were stated above(the unlcok of two new ones as you move up) only released in some games? I have 7th and 8th style and I've always remebered 7th kyu to 10 dan being available from start. I think I fit ok somewhere between 5-6, possibly 7. Can't remember.
