That's one of the reasons I like them ^.^ I just love to see them go crazy. Also, the Ultramix series fixed that problem. On some songs they only dance to half of the BPM to make it look more realistic.
What I would love to see in future DDR games is a Create A Dancer mode with unlockable costume pieces you can buy with dance points.
In conclusion, there seems to be enough character fans to justify their stay. So charaphobes can get over it.
