Okay, so I went there again to grab a bunch of random foods. A lot of it turned out to be snacks, but a lot turned out to be actual food for meals. One reason that I like trader joes is because so much of the food is pre cooked, so it's easier than anything to make. For example:
Precooked wild rice, vacuum sealed and ready to be heated. 4 dollars for a pack that is 3 cups; usually uncooked wild rice runs about 7 a pound at the Whole Foods by me.
Ribs packaged in bbq sauce, presmoked and (I think) precooked. Just slap em on the grill and enjoy. If you don't like smoky foods, I wouldn't suggest em, but I'm not a fan of smoky and I started liking then after the first rib.
And damn, do I love the fact that they're almost 100% organic. Not fully; I've found TJ products with partially hydrogenated oils (fries, what can you do) but for the most part, I found their standards to be immaculately high.
One more reason why I love TJ's: practically every employee at my location is friendly, smiles, and actually talks to you. In shoprite, you get a drop dead attitude, in Whole Foods, a snide one, but here, it feels like they actually care.
Funny story, I walked in with a Hawaiian shirt on, and when we checked out the cashier thought I was an employee. Did a double take and everything. |
