The phenomenon that you are experiencing is commonly referred to as scaling lag. While CRT direct view TVs are capable of displaying video streams according to the material source resolutions, current HDTVs in production are bound by their native resolution and therefore have to artificially scale and convert the video output (e.g. 640x480i -> 1280×720p or 1920×1080p). Although higher-end plasma panels can usually process video faster than their LCD or DLP counterparts, none of them matches the resulting speed of CRT monitors.

As such, even though you may be able to reduce the scaling lag effect to a certain degree by playing around with settings and by using products like this, Trip Machina is correct in identifying CRT as the best friend for rhythm game lovers (at least for now).
