Bjork, Fox N' Wolf and The Kills have been the only female-vocals groups that have ever stuck my chords. At least, that I can remember right now.

I'm sure there were others but I adore girls singing about waking up in a naked, hung over mess in there own vomit. Made for a great party song.

OH: And The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Heart, Ladytron, April March, Technotronic, Lil' Mama.
Also a lot of Jazz acts like Astrud Gilberto and Koop score some great female vocalists. Especially in Koop Island Blues.
But you could always go with Ella Fitzgerald.

EDIT: The Le Tigre songs where they don't sound like vegans.
SUPER EDIT: Stereolab.
Sorry it's taking me a while.
Gloria Estefan got me dancing for sure though.
