all you need is a .sm file and a .mp3 or .ogg file.
on another note, I think the 2 minute rule might only take affect once the stepfile has started. I noticed when I play one of my custom files, the top bar that shows how far into the song you are will start when the stepfile starts, not the music. it might be something to check out, it might not, who knows.
