Usually, you can get the best items in the game BEFORE you complete. They're there to make the final boss easier. | There's something like that in a more recent release (Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin, Warriors Orochi 2 US/UK). Clear every stage in all difficulties to get Shin Orochi, who is Orochi with minor tweaks. When you consider that some stages are unlocked by super tedious tasks like "Level up all characters' proficiency to Lv 30+" which takes a very long time, it just doesn't feel worth it at all. Oh, and some stages restrict you to certain characters, so I guess you have to build them up as well.
