Dain Olsen, better known to most as Beatdrop. I've been producing music for nearly 8 years now. Originally got my start at a very young age by getting hooked up with Hammer Head drum loop creator, and I toyed around with it a lot. Before all that, I was a rock and concert percussionist for a number of years, so drum programming came naturally to me. Looking for a better, fuller alternative, I stumbled across FruityLoops (which was then just about to get updated to version 2.7.2), and started making my own songs with the demo. They were horrible, although I still have all of them.

Roughly six or seven months later, when I was actually starting to get the hang of working with FL, I came across OverClocked Remix (OverClocked ReMix - Video Game Music Community) and quickly got involved with the video game music remixing scene. My first remix is garbage by todays standards, but at the time I was fairly happy with it. Anyway, my big break came a month later or so. I started talking to Matt Pollard ("mp") in the #ocremix IRC channel, and we decided to collaborate on a remix. I made a number of .wav drum loops using FL, as well as some synth lines, sent it all to him, he arranged it with some orchestral backing, and then contacted Sean Stone ("Ailsean") to provide guitar work, and "House Hornet" was born. To this day it's considered to be a "legendary" song from the video game music remixing community. Particularly back at the time it was released, 2001, it was utterly groundbreaking and in a tier of its own.

Today, I mainly focus on producing my original works. As most of you probably know, I was one of winners of 2007's Konami Song Contest and so my song "Until Forever" was included in DDR Supernova 2 and Universe 2. I've also provided music to O2Jam (which I still haven't been paid for, actually) and a number of other smaller organizations/projects. I was initially going to get involved with ITG, but decided against it for reasons I don't recall. I think it was the legality of the whole thing that I considered daunting. I was also involved with the DanceTrax project while it was still... alive. Lord only knows what's going on with it now.

Setup:

FL Studio 8
Sound Forge 7
A bunch of VST shit
Logitech USB microphone
