I am currently doing this.

I let my Zune die.
Then When I hit play it showed a battery with a !
Then I plugged it in.
After a while I waited until the Zune logo and white bar appeared.
Then I did the Back - Left - OK, which clears the contents.
Right now I am waiting for it to be done.
What I am going to do is either wait for Zune to put up a new firmware or whatever and in the mean time when all of the contents is clear, including the firmware I am going to wait to see what MS does. But if you want to do this go ahead and let know what happens. Because I have a lot of stuff on mine so it's taking a while. If you have less stuff on yours then do this. You can help me with this theory and idea. Let me know how it goes.
