If you have tried the Japan versions are the animations in the game and the game play itself more revolved around anime?

I am just wondering because I love anime and if there is generally more anime inspired things in the Japanese versions I would import them.

Anyways, thank you for reading.
The differences lie in the respective songlists. Now of course, the core songlist is there but sometimes, they add extra songs (bonus songs as you call them) which differ from each version.

Also, in other cases, some times the features may be different (or that there may be a lack of it). In the case of DDR X for the PS2, the US version I think lacks the step edit feature (I'm not sure of it though).

So yeah, I hope that answers a part of your question
