I used to use my thumb to mash the 1+3 and pinky scratch but for my stick fingers it didn't always work so what I do is play the 1+2+3 with my middle three fingers on my left hand, and whenever a chord like that comes up I simply switch my 4th finger on 1 with my thumb.
In other words I use my thumb on the 1 and index on the 3, takes awhile to get used to the crossover but it works.
