3 was the first that let you really just light a level up if you understood it well, and was the last that had a significant gameplay innovation in the form of the revert. I had every game from the original to Underground, skipped UG2 because what the hell Neversoft, picked up American Skateland used for ten bucks and was pretty disappointed. Going sandbox badly hurt the stage design. Quote:

The on-foot controls in UG were not very good at all and their inclusion led to a fair number of really idiotic challenges.
New THPS titles haven't been relevant since OG skate came out and at this point the only thing THPS games do better is flatland. I'm hoping if and when skate 3 comes out they'll have figured out a way to nail that down.
