I did the same since there's no arcades around me. Minicon is nowhere near the same but it'll help get you into the game (reading notes mainly). Buy a game with a lot of songs you like preferably 11-14.
If you like it, sell the mini and buy a dj dao ASC. You'll be without a controller for a while but it won't be such a blow to your wallet if you get rid of the minicon for money. Plus it's worth it.
