The sdf<space>jkl syndrome stems from the pioneer games in the genre (O2Jam, DJMAX Online - half of it, anyway) which used that key setup. Quite a number of people buying Trilogy go right into 5k/7k mode and use that same setup regardless of the fact the lanes aren't even the same size/layout nor are the charts designed with that kind of grouping in mind.

Trilogy was designed as a 4/6/8key game primarily with 5k/7k being derivatives, rather than the other way round.

edit: Just to be 100% clear, that means you don't want to use sdf<space>jkl in Trilogy. Ever.
