Well i might be wrong but i think it has to do with ur natural skills? I don't know, i occasionally played simple rhythm games when i was young but completely stopped when i was 11 and picked up it again at 18.
Now i've been (seldom) playing IIDX for about 10 months now and i can easy clear some 10s and normal clear a few 10s (Wow 10 10 10). So i don't know, it could be ur talent to start with.
