I don't think it matters whether or not you play 7k or not, all that matters is the difficulty of the song. For example, there are a handful of level 8s on L7 but there are also several 2s and 3s on 7K. Just play by difficulty, not necessarily by strictly light or 7k (now called Normal and Hyper)
