Ok, first off, let me say this. I went into the movie expecting a shitty plot and enough holes to make a grate. I went into the movie expecting a pile of shit covered in brilliance. I wanted to see this movie based solely on the fact that it had a great title and a wacky premise.

I came out having the satisfaction of being wrong.

Snakes on a Plane (SoaP) was a good movie. The plot explained its two most obvious potential flaws: snakes in Hawaii, and rabid snake behavior. Both these details are backed by a revelation later in the film, which automatically made it work well as a movie. Most of the other smaller details seemed pretty accurate as well. Adding to this, the archetypes were fairly subtle and the variety in the character types were there for comic relief, almost all of them.

As for the content, holy shit. This movie had so many jokes in the first action scene it awas insanity. After the first one you could see them coming, but god damn they were all so great. The people in the theater--including myself--cheered for the deaths as they came. The action sequences, even when they weren't intended to be funny, were entertaining to a great degree and kept everyone attentive the entire time. People clapped, people laughed, people awed in amazement at the sheer brilliance that was SoaP. This night was a great night for movies.

I'm not being elitist or humorous or even funny when I say that the movie is worth watching. Not because of its title, but because it turned out to be much more than expected. For an idiotic plot, they sure as hell pulled it off.

Also, Samuel L. Jackson.
