speaking of all this i just got disgaea 1 yesterday

it got traded in at work, and i got it for the low low price of "hey i didn't get paid today"

I'm not really bothered by it even though I haven't finished the game yet

I never really saw the plot of Disgaea/D2 as being particularly central to the game, it's really more like an excuse to have a bunch of Power Rangers and adorable demons and exploding penguins walking around with you and to generally be snarky and hilarious while you carry on with the real meat of the game, which is increasing your numbers to the limits of imagination

I'm not criticizing the game or anything though, they're hilarious and I have tons of fun with them even though the game is pretty much about spending 400 hours leveling up

Frankly, I figured it out around episode five. It's not horrible; it's obvious for half the game before they finally get around to stating it. In any case, Disgaea 2's story is so weak that it's hardly an issue. D2 is all about gameplay and big numbers.

And in any case, D1's story is the only story ever that matters.

Reene, it sucks that you learned that before playing through the game. When you learn about that the whole plot just comes together and the whole game and scenes make perfect sense. Knowing that the game might even be a little more enjoyable, because you'll know cool secrets when you see them. And yes, there is alot more to the game then that.
