also i really want to point out the concept of the internet echo chamber. no one is going to post after installing starforce to say "HEY EVERYTHING IS FINE." the only people who talk about it are the ones who have had something fuck up, and although they are understandably outraged, their noise attracts a shitload of attention that outweighs the fact that for nearly everyone else it doesn't do anything wrong. if you dislike the fact that it tells on you if you crack a starforce-protected game, that's one thing, but it isn't going to make your computer shit the bed out of nowhere.

The server is up persistently so the only times you'll actually need me is if my computer shuts down or something like that or some other circumstance that causes the server to be down also give me more tracks so we don't dry out the pro courses.

Okay, long story short. StarForce is a copy protection and in this case anti-cheating measure that installs itself way deep on your computer, which by itself is grounds for serious nerdrage. In some isolated cases, there are reports of it mucking up people's optical drives, and it always prevents you from using stuff like Alcohol120%, anything that creates virtual drives. If you crack a StarForce game, it will tattle on you to the publisher (ask Irob about this). Unless you're doing a lot of game copying, then it usually doesn't matter.

Here's the wikipedia article for it. It sounds bad but if you're interested in playing the game don't let it discourage you, as I've never had a problem with it nor has anyone with whom I've interacted online.
