::DDR Extreme 2 PS2 Review:: Everyone thought that after Extreme came out, Konami would stop making DDR games. But along comes DDR Extreme 2 and everyone goes nuts about it... which they should have every right to. Here's why...
This game is Konami's "I'm sorry I was such an asshole to you" gift. It defenitely made up for the things the first US Extreme home version lacked. Mission mode got improved to "Dance Master Mode", which was like a little adventure sequence you went through by picking songs to play that had certain pre-set MODS and certain goals to beat to move on to a certain path. A nice idea, but it left most players frustrated at times. They brought back the old MAX and MAX2 theme with new colors and background video to replace the background. Nice idea on Konami, but it wasn't the first time they used that idea (Ultramix for X-Box).

We can see from the songlist that Konami defenitely learned from their mistake on DDR Extreme. We got more Konami originals and the fact that the PS2 got a chance to play songs from DDR Ultramix is a HUGE plus in my book, cause after all, Ultramix series has some pretty sweet and sick songs ^_^. I still however can't get over how they managed to get YUZO KOSHIRO to make them a song. First time i saw that song I was like "NO FUCKING WAY!" For those of you that don't know, Yuzo Koshiro made kick-ass songs to popular games like "Streets Of Rage", and is pretty much a celebrity in the gaming music world. Speaking of Music Artists, a new face in DDR music, NC. makes the first appearence here, and if you ask me, I see a bright future for this artist.
YES there are a few flaws to this game as well.
1) They still added crappy kareoke songs. "Play That Funky Music" and "Oops I Did It Again" are failure songs made by people that have no talent, so they should have stayed dead rather then be ressurected.
2) NO MAX SONG! How can you NOT have a max song in a DDR game now-a-days? If anything, we should have gotten MAX. (period) by 2MB cause thats the next max song waiting in line for a chance in the Home version song list spot.
3) The new way to unlock songs... Shop Mode. It pissed everybody off, and almost killed the game for most hardcore players. No one wants to go through obsticles and then unlock songs that they don't even have enough points to purchase.
INTERESTING FACT
Injection Of Love has lyrics to them but they are sexually graphic, which is why Konami edited them out. Would you dance to a song that said "Lick me, feel me, touch me"? Oh wait I forgot, thats what E-Rotic songs are for, lol. |
