Default Taiko Drum Master/PS2

[Taiko Drum Master / PS2]

This game is fun. This game is challenging. This game is...weird. Yes, a drumming game CAN be weird, and this is living proof. The game is like so:

You are given a drum pad, and a little "stool" for your drum to rest diagonally on. There are four places you can hit on the drum with sticks that the game provides. There is left middle, right middle, left edge, and right edge. If you are familiar with most music games, you should adapt to this fairly quickly. You see little cute drum faces as they scroll horizontally across your screen. When the faces reach a specific area, you have to hit the drum. A reddish orange color drum face indicates you to hit the middle of the drum on either the left or right side. Blue indicates you must hit the edge of the drum on either the left or ride side. There are also drum rolls(pretty self explanatory) and big drum faces where you have to hit both the left and the right side of the drum. Now that you are familiar with the game, onto the review:

Gameplay: 9/10
This game is addicting. As simple as it sounds, and as simple as it is, it's still fun. You may find yourself playing for hours on end, and find that this game isn't for kids. Oh no. It gets hard. The more you play, the more you unlock. You unlock songs, movies, and the oni difficulty. There is stuff in here to keep you playing for some time...

Sound: 8/10
The music in this game is also addicting. From TV/Anime songs, to Classical, to Rock, to Katamari Damacy, this game has songs from many genres. All of the classical songs are great, all of the Namco originals are great, and the others have some good and ok songs. The section I felt failed the most was the rock category. The songs are not bad, but they sound bad. The original singers are not there, which is a point deduction for me

Patterns: 9/10
The drum patterns in this game are fun. They are not just put anywhere and follow the music perfectly. The game patterns also range from really easy, to really hard. There are special modes, and difficulties for everyone to enjoy. Only reason it's not a 10, is that some songs repeat the same drum patterns. Example: Dragon Ball Z theme song's Hard and Oni patterns are the same. But that is not the only song that has that. Many songs do. It just seems that the people making the patterns for each song got lazy at the end.

Odd & creepiness: 10/10
The announcer Taiko's are creepy. The opening song has an eerily cheerful melody to it, and the lyrics...well...let me give you a little taste.
"I am happy! Absolutely. Even though I was scolded for not washing my hands, I am still happy."
The Backgrounds, as awesome as they are, are as well creepy and odd. The people dancing to the song at the bottom are pretty cool, and the two drum stick throwing confetti is always a plus.
(Note: This doesn't affect score)

Replay Value: 10/10
Amazing Replay value. You will find yourself playing until your arms fall off. Seriously.

Overall: 9/10
With a couple of flaws, this game still delivers, and it delivers well. There is no doubt that any music game fan will dislike this game. Check it out!
