I didn't see FreQuency when it was online, but I do have it and I must say, it's harder than Amplitude is with timing and stuff. Plus it seemed more underground than Amplitude was.
Guitar Hero IMO is just a VERY watered down version of Amplitude where you can't really do much but play one instrument to one type of music. Rock is cool, but I like variety in my music games.
Amplitude and FreQuency was like you were a music producer with all the different audio tracks. And it was different from IIDX and stuff because it wasn't just static graphics, it was an actual 3D world that you moved through and it had so many interesting effects. (Something else that GH lacks.)
You've played Amplitude right? I've beaten AMplitude but not FreQuency.
It's sad to see that people who LOVE GH don't even know about Amplitude or FreQuency.
Darn you Sony!!! Why did you have to go and kill a good game? Now we have to import, pay a ton of money, and learn a foreign language if we ant to play anything in a music game besides rock music! ((DDR doesn't count as an ACTUAL MUSIC game IMO because you don't do anything with the music except dance to it..)

Anyways, I loved both Frequency and Amplitude. I picked up Amp on a whim without giving much thought as to what it was, but it is definitely a fine game. The coolest thing about the games, I thought, were the abilities to both remix the tracks AND play them right after. Amplitude took it to the next level, and you were able to upload your creations, as well as download other remixes from other people and play them as well. The only thing closest to that would be edit steps for DDR, but even then, that didn't go online until SuperNOVA2 with e-amuse, I think.
Truly, a pair of great games for what they did, but sadly has been barely noticed by the regular consumer.

I'll never forget the moment of terror when the third boss song in Amplitude unveiled Slipknot.

One of my all time favourite games
I never got round to buying Amplitude though D:

I love these games to death, and in their hayday, I would spend hours of the night online, enjoying myself to the fullest. I actually made some real good, close friends all around the country through these games, friends that I still talk to to this day.
I don't know if anyone played either online much, but I used to go under the name DJ Sword (still do in some places); I wonder if anyone here remembers/recognizes me or not. If you do, cool, because it's always fun to find someone outside the environment you met them in. ^_^
I think the best thing Harmonix could EVER do would be to make a third installment of these games for the PS3 (and actually market them this time!). Here's hoping!
