Default IIDX vs. O2Jam vs. DJ MAX vs. EZ2DJ. Which game do you like more?

Seeing as O2Jam is already sort of here, I don't know. I mean more mainstream systems lik PS2 and PSP and stuff like that.

We all know what happened with beatmania. But what about DJ MAX? I think that would do exceptionally better in the US just because of some of the songs on the list and also because it's a bit easier to grasp. As I said in my other post on the DJ Max thread, my sister's not into music games at all and she's mostly hiphop and normal everyday stuff (not games an anime and whaever) and she truely enjoyed playing DJ Max Portable 2 and she didn't just play one or two songs.

O2Jam is kind of already here... but... Meh... I played it and wern't all tht happywith the songs they give you at first.

EZ2DJ I'venever played... So... who knows how that would do.

What do you guys think?

Hmm.... Should've added a poll.

i agree with ya on dj max being easier to grasp (no TT)

in fact, it was because of dj max (portable version) that started my music game addiction

as far as EZ2DJ, ive played it a few times. the songs dont have the quality of either of those other series. it has a BMIII-esque foot pedal, a rather loose TT, and it uses seperate effector buttons midplay as part of the full keyset (5 keys plus those two).

the only real thing i like about that mega-knockoff is that it had hold notes, which i feel IIDX should have had for a long time. i find myself holding a note equal in duration to sounds that it corresponds to. it feels right, looks good, and is kinda fun (the note holding, not EZ2DJ itself).

the quality just isnt there as far as what it is trying to imitate (IIDX), but it does those few interesting innovations. i think konami doesnt like to implement competitor's innovations because it would make THEM feel like the copycats. (ex. 3 and 4 arrows at the same time like ITG.)

I'd say O2JAM because it doesn't have the word DJ in it and you know how usa reacted to beatmania being a "dj simulation"

I would say DJMAX is FUN and EASY to learn and has a great selection of songs to choose from! O2JAM is fun and also easy to learn, but the song selection is not so great at first. IIDX personally, just goes under it's own category and doesn't fit with DJMAX or O2JAM, why? Because IIDX is meant for AC and has a controller. And DJMAX and O2JAM are meant for the computer, no special controller, just a keyboard. And though they have a semi-same concept, one has a TT making it more fun. :P

I'd say O2Jam has the best chance of success with the right marketing. It's an online game, it's free, and has character customization, which online gamers like.

Also, it's got accessible difficulty, from easy to completely ridiculous.

Yeah. (i.e. level 200 song. It's on youtube.)

It's kinda strange. When I play IIDX, I get tence much quicker and feel I have to hurry and do everything. (Even going through the menues). I just feel more relaxed when playing DJ MAX... and no, I didn't mean for that to rhyme. I don't know what it is....

Iv only played O2Jam once and immediently removed it from my comp. The whole menu theme just gave me a bad vibe and the starting music was terrible. Im definatly sticking with IIDX.

Just a FYI: The level 200 song (Fantazindy) is not ACTUALLY a level 200 chart. It's a custom chart made for the song. It's not on the malaysian servers (international server) afaik either, only the...Chinese server I think it is? Well anyway, it's on a different server completely. Also, it should be noted that the real chart for it is also very difficult, but that level 200 is a bogus custom made one.

That Fantazindy chart is an example of the crap o2jam players WANT to see. It's sad that people want to see more garbage like that and turn o2jam into a "Make as many notes and holds as possible" game rather than a fun and addicting music game. That seems to be mostly something with malaysian/chinese players though.
Don't get me wrong, I like o2jam, but it's one of the few (if not only) music games i'd rather see more fun than challenging charts.

I've played all except Ez2dj, but I would think DJMAX would do best. Hell, the portable version is fairly known in the US and has great reviews all around, release an english version (NOT the DMPi crap) in the US and then try out a PC version.

--On a sidenote, I Prefer the PC version of DJMAX over the portable.

LOLWUT?

Someone remove IIDX on the choices... Because it pwns all of them combined!

Well, I haven't really played EZ2DJ...
So all I have to compare is O2Jam and DJMax...

=/

Errr...

DJMax, simply because a lot of O2Jam's charts are terribly off-sync. COUGHFESTIVALOFGHOST2COUGH

And I only noticed the note that said "Which would do best in the US" just now...

So...
Which would do best in the US?
None... :|

Because none of them are Guitar Hero...

well, we've already seen IIDX do rather poorly in the US, aside from the occasional newbie player or some guy who wants new controllers.

O2Jam's formula as an online game that doesn't NEED a peripheral to enjoy is a plus. it's Almost the Same with DJMAX. But as O2Jam not actually being billed as a simulation of anything other than music, i think it would win out over it. DJ max (and the portable versions too) has a better presentation and graphics, though.

EZ2 i think wouldn't do any better than IIDX.

I still think EZ2DJ is the best DJ simulator out there.

O2Jam is a blatant rip-off and would be popular because of the character customisation. The songs are overall fun but it's just a shame that most of the good stuff needs to be paid for to be unlocked. And, yes, I understand that they are running a business and this is the perfect business model.

IIDX is the originator but its genre range is limited and is more for the expert players -- especially with the difficulty curve it has. By "limited genre range" I mean that most of it is too trancey now. Sure it sounds fantastic but even so, the song range is very hit'n'miss for me... Trance to IIDX is like Naoki to DDR :P The difficulty curve is... well, you really need dedication to perform well on it -- something that the average gamer just doesn't want, I suppose. And because it *is* so hard, it's very easy to become frustrated with the game and quit altogether. On top of that, everyone knows that it stole songs from DDR!!!11

EZ2DJ, on the other hand, has a tremendously fantastic music range, fantastic background videos (call me old-fashioned, but the IIDX videos look like absolute shit compared to *any* other DJ simulator's videos) and the notes are fantastic -- you *don't have* to play with the 2 Effectors + pedal... You can toggle them. The hold notes are a fantastic innovation. The videos are fantastic quality. The timing is great -- not too hard, not too soft. The notes themselves are pretty decent for its time (of course there's always room for improvement but that goes with all games)...
It's just a shame that Konami killed it

Oh well, at least DJ Max lives on... I just don't like the limited song count... but you can't do too much with a UMD's storage capacity... Otherwise, it takes what EZ2DJ had and can still manage to improve on quality. The genre range is fantastic and the songs are enjoyable to play on all difficulties (well, most of them are... Some are just retardedly difficult). The videos are much smoother than even EZ2DJ which blows my mind. Again, it's major downfall is that there are only some 40-odd songs. And for the amount of time it takes to unlock everything... well, you get really damn tired of those songs really damn fast. Although, having no turntable (for the most part) would increase the average English-speaking gamer's interest.

So, in summation: O2Jam should dominate in sales. DJ Max a close second because there's no turntable but the song count isn't strong enough. EZ2DJ would be third ONLY BECAUSE its genre range would better suit the average English-speaker and because of this, IIDX would be last (hey, beatmania US pretty much failed, didn't it?). All too many times have I heard people tell me off for liking trance. "What the hell is this? This isn't music!" but they'll appreciate hip-hop and r'n'b (which the Korean knock-offs are pretty much famous for).
