Default The Official Parappa The Rapper 1/2 and Um Jammer Lammy Thread!

Step on the gas, and talk about these older music games here!

I've got a few questions about Parappa 2:

1. In Parappa 1, it was piss easy to get the "Cool" rating, why the hell is it so hard in Parappa 2?
2. How do I get "Cool"s in Parappa 2, I swear it's impossible, or just pure luck!
3. Are there any unlocks/cheats besides the doghouse, and the different hats?

Thank You

Thank You
1. I assume it was harder to get the "cool" on the U Rappin' monitor because as you suggested, it was very easy to get it on PtR1.
2. If I can recall, this is how I did it:
You see three notes above you. Triangle, then O, then X. When it gets to triangle, hit it and continue to hit it constantly, and fast, but still keeping up with the tempo of the little picture of you moving accross the X, O, Square, and Triagle. Then when it gets to O, tap that constantly. Then when it gets to O, tap that constantly.
3. Not that I know of.

I am so upset too. A year or two ago, my dog stepped on my Um Jammer Lammy game. It broke. At first I didn't really care. But, now I miss it so fucking much. I lost my Parappa 1 game, and I still have my Parappa 2 game safely in it's case. I really enjoyed all three of these games, but I have to say Parappa 2 was the worst one. Didn't have as much replay value, or good songs.

Parappa one had the bathroom one, which was one of my favorites, and then Um Jammer Lammy had the tree cutting, and the Baby ones, which were tight. The only one I recall really liking in Parappa 2 was the training on the skates, and the bikes, and shit with that one chick. I forgot her name.

Anywho, great series. Too bad I doubt there will be anymore.

Holy crap, I never realized a thread for this series did not exist. Well done for starting one!

The first one ruled save for the damn cooking level. Either there was something wrong with my disc or I have the world's worst timing for that specific level.

Lammy was the best (to me, at least) what with the caterpillar nurse (how you are able to play a baby bunny as a guitar, I never did find out) and Capt. Fussenpepper ("I thought milk was pink"). Parappa's little play-through at the end felt added in at the last minute and really did nothing to make me turn away from Lammy's quest.

Parappa 2 was sorely underrated. Yeah, the plot is beyond stupid (even for these games) and yeah, most of the songs are forgettable (the second to last song immediately jumps to mind) but it is still a Parappa game. Love goes out to the burger level and the final level, but most of all to the Hairdresser Octopus level (best damn level in the series).

Parappa The Rapper is a cool music game. I won't forget these lyrics from the first stage in PtR1 on the PSone :

Chop Chop Master Onion :
Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind
If you wanna test me, I'm sure you'll find
that all the things, I'll teach ya is sure to beat ya,
nevertheless you'll get a lesson from teacher now...

I wonder what a "Parappa 3" would be like on PS3...well, if it were EVER to come out.

It was easy to get a cool on the original becuase of the way the game played. Assuming that you did what the teacher told you on the second play through, you get a flashing cool so technically you only would need to offically play one cool.

In Un Jammer you could get a cool ranking on the first play through, but the problem is that freestyling on a guitar is a little difficult with only 6 notes at best. Some levels you can swing the rythm and add a few extra notes here and there, but some like the dreaded 6th stage were difficult just to beat. You do not get the flashing cool just for playing so it's a bit more difficult as you have to play cool two times in a row.

In Pa rappa 2 is easy to get a cool, but you have to play vs against the computer. The computer on the hardest level puts out some pretty sick lines so try to pick up a few and use it in the stage. Once again you do not get a flashing cool for playing.

I had that problem a lot in Um Jammer Lammy (PSone). I kinda got all those cool freestyle tunes from the CPU on the highest difficulty in Freemode. Didn't take that much time to learn and clear the game though. 'Cept there was this mode where you have to co-op with your double. The back-up CPU totally screws up the mood for most of the time. Giving me a hard time clearing some stages...

I tried above tips for getting COOLs. I've played every stage except the last, gotten all the judges on the meters, and so on.

Are there any special tips for certain stages like how in Parappa 1, for the onion stage when he said "KICK!" you could just say "KICK KICK KICK KICK KICK KICK" (embellish what the teacher said, repeat it) and you'd get a cool?

A bit off topic but I remember there was a PSM issue where they gave charts for getting cool on Um Jammer.

As for Pa Rappa... I was never that great at freestyling outside of level one so the only thing i can advise is to surf gamefaqs. They have a guide that kind of shows how to get cool ratings.

This hasn't come up so I thought I'd mention it... When playing Pa Rappa, hold up on the d-pad and you'll see "secret" images. Hey, if you always wanted to see a naked onion taking a shower... well just try it already!

OMFG. This is my first music game i've ever played. Parappa and Lammy are like two of my favorite games ever. Lammy was just fun all around. But for some reason you guys are saying it was super easy to get cool in the first Parappa, I found it EXTREMELY hard. As for Parappa 2, I can easily get cool on almost any stage. But, I have to say that Guru Ant is the man from PR2.

Lamny is way better than the Parappas, and would be twice as good if they had made her game twice as long, as opposed to tacking on those Parappa levels and changing the game from Umjamer Lamy to 1/2 Umjamer Lamy, 1/2 Parappa 1.5.

This game was one of the first that I had for the PS1 back in '97.

But anyway, I loved this game. The first was way better than the second, but I lost the first one

That's how I first played Parappa. First music game I played, Bust-a-Groove came after. I bought UmJammer Lammy afterwards but accidently stepped on it, and bought a used copy for like $5, and got me Parappa 2. I really want the original though.
