Love the games. Never got a chance to play Dance Summit 2001 but the soundtrack was groovy (Cherry Bomb was the best).
The first game in the series was so mind-blowing cool for the time that you had to see it to believe it. Years later, the game still holds up, partly due to the incredibly awesome soundtrack. Hiro will always be my favorite character strictly for The Natural Playboy. The only problem with the game was the "Americanized" soundtrack. I respect the English versions of the songs (though Capoiera's original was worlds better) but I do not like them as much and their edits are retarded (the word "tequila" was censored from Power, why?).
Part II plays better with the Groove System on the bottom (the three colored bars) and of course, the different inputs but the soundtrack still lacks when compared to part I. The American version was good with Kitty-N's and Shorty's songs in English but I prefer the Japanese version strictly for James Suneoka. If you never got to experience James, he was sort of the announcer for the credits. You would beat the game, something random would fall on James' head, and then a short montage would play. I remember Capoeira being rare painting lovers for some reason. It was gold and sadly, James just appears while dancing in the American version's credits. Boo! And Pander still scares the hell out of me. |
