There's More To Life Than This | Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit.
Bjork has the most incoherent lyrics I've heard in my life.
Not the most insane voice mind you, but my all time favorite to pick on.
Favorite songs:
-That one with the little keyboard atmospherey thing while she sings in a sort of strained half-whisper to disguise her accent
-That one with the jazzy ensemble thing while she sings in a sort of strained half-whisper to disguise her accent
-That one where she actually sings with a full voice. Even though she sounds like a serial murderer.
In all seriousness, though, I might have actually liked Bjork if all her songwriting wasn't such major bullshit. The fact that Liam Lynch's parody of one of her songs is nearly indistinguishable from one of her real songs should say a lot.

Yea, if someone had something to say about the artist themselves, I'd love that.
I don't give a shit about lyrics, your so called singer-songwriters all sound the SAME. THE FUCKING SAME. The best part about Bjork is that she's instantly recognizable. She understands to use her voice not as a messenger but as an instrument, which is a dead and/or nonexistent art.

Checkout Joanna Newsom ASAP. Her vocals fucking crush Bjork's.

She understands to use her voice not as a messenger but as an instrument, which is a dead and/or nonexistent art. | The reason she's instantly recognizable is because she sounds like an elf that dipped into too much acid. Seriously, her voice isn't that amazing. Most of the time, she remains on a certain pitch, leading me to question whether she can actually sing. When she does shit pitches, it's never in a way that the average person couldn't. Truth is, I could easily act as a male mirror to Bjork, and I would most likely not get through the second round of American Idol.
Instrumentation? All of her so called songs all sound the SAME. THE FUCKING SAME. I thought I made that clear in my first post. And not giving a shit about lyrics when the vocals are the most prominent aspect of the song is like going to a restaurant and not giving a shit about the quality of the food.
As for "my" so called singer-songwriters... are you implying that I favor Jack Johnson and the like? Because seriously dude, you must not have been paying attention. No, they do all suck. Jack Johnson especially. But that's for another thread.

You suck at making analogies. You obviously didn't take into account the fact that there are different languages in the world and not everyone sings in the same one. How are you supposed to care about lyrics when you can't understand them?
Think before you post Ribos, and know the artist before rushing in to attack him/her/them.

And maybe it's just my bad luck, but the eight songs I've heard spanning her career all seem to have the same vocal style. And I figure eight chances are enough. Quote:

| 1) Some of her songs are indeed in English. You disregard those lyrics?
2) In the event they are not in English... you find translations?
Rammstein (as an example) doesn't sing in English (most of the time), yet you can't really see why they're a good band until you understand the lyrics. In Bjork's case, even the translations don't make sense.
Actually, out of my 14,000+ song collection, I'd say 1/8th of it features lyrics not in English. And yet, I still care about the lyrics. To not care is simply to be lazy.
And I'm not entirely sure you understand what my analogy meant. Because it had nothing to do with language at all.

You said that the lyrics to a song are important when vocals are the most prominent aspect of the song.
Being that this is bemanistyle.com, I'm going to bring up Bemani for a second. One of my favorite songs from GF/DM is "Little Prayer". The lyrics and singing are foreign, and I don't understand a word of it. The singer could be talking about drinking a gallon of vomit and smearing shit all overherself while she shoving a small kitten into her vagina. I don't know, I don't care, but it sounds good.
You don't need to understand the lyrics to like a song, and even if you do understand the lyrics you don't need to pay attention to them or care their meaning. Sure, if you look into the meaning(s) of the lyrics it can increase the power of the song, or possibly decrease it, but it's not a neccessary part of enjoying music.

I like Bjork. What witty fucking statement do you have for personal taste? That my taste sucks? Ooh, big deal.
I like the fact I can't understand her, I like the fact that her voice is imperfect. Get the FUCK out of here if you don't have anything to do but cause problems. Quote: |
Truth is, I could easily act as a male mirror to Bjork, and I would most likely not get through the second round of American Idol.
| Holy SHIT I hate that show. Ever notice how the finalist's albums SUCK ASS?!
Just because you can sing does NOT mean you can make music at ALL. Even with a producer. Quote: |

I suppose the thing that makes her stand out from a lot of other artists is the ever evolving nature of her music. Not to mention that her voice is really strong and it's got a wide range and her voice has a sort of raw, ethereal quality that I've only seen in one other artist.

And since no one actually seems to be reading my posts, I think I'll go be an ass elsewhere, as Dark suggested.
Not that I'm backing down, I'm just bored with this discussion.
