Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not all of their performances are pre-recorded. I can't speak for kors k but I know that Ryu* is a sick dj from raw unedited performances I've listened to.
Even though paradox is making himself look like a gigantic elitist douchebag, hes absolutely right, pre-recorded mixing is NOT what being a dj is about. Saying that pre-recorded mixing is considered "dj'ing" would be saying that the 40 year old guy that presses fart noises and alarm sirens on a console on your favorite light-fm station is a real dj.
Now the other thing is, should you care if it's a pre-recorded mix? Depends. If it is a performance, almost ALL electronic artists you love, use pre-recorded mixes in some form or way.
Unless you have ten people on stage, electronic music needs some form of automation, even if its a cue sheet that sets off certain loops at certain points. But, what most artists do, is add a human aspect to it. You can compare this to Daft Punk, who even though used pre-rendered and pre-set tracks on Ableton Live for all their performances everywhere, used completely original effects, splicing, chopping, and decontruction with their moog voyagers, that made all their performances unique. During their Paris show, they even gave a completely improvised encore performance, which was incredible to say the least.
Considering Thomas Bangalter is one of the best house dj's on the planet, it would be totally stupid to judge his dj sets with his "performances". So just learn to recognize that there is indeed a difference from doing a dj set, and doing a live performance.
Someone asked how to tell if the mix is pre-rendered in someway. Very easy way to tell:
Is the EQ perfect? Are the transitions smooth as butter 100% of the time? Then its pre-mixed in some way. There is no such thing as a perfect live mix. Its absolutely impossible without some kind of pre-set or pre-made list.
PS: Listen to a tiesto performance and listen to NO+CHIN's promo set, and you will now know the difference between live mixing and performance.
PSS: Do you people realize you are arguing over
TIESTO?
