People ban it in some places because it's explicit and because Holden curses and because it has adult themes. It shows how ignorant they are because, like it or not, the story is much deeper.
I invite you to share your thoughts. Yes, you.

The author tried to be clever, and make Holden's hyporocies and flaws subtle. Didn't work. Having him be the only real character with any depth (if you can call a mess of contradictions and angsty teen confusion depth) doesn't help it much.
It's not perticularly well written (using the first-person narration as an excuse, I'm sure) and not very enjoyable, so from a purely entertainment standpoint it's still trash.

The story itself was a bit confusing, I had to read it over twice just to see if I understood the first time I read it through.
A great book, but many people do not like it for reasons as to it having an adult theme to it and him having problems mentally.
My 10th grade teacher gave us an assignment, which was to read a book and make a summary out of it and whatnot.
Well, I told her I was going to read it, and she was saying "No, no, no, it contains things you shouldn't be reading!"...heh.
I did it anyways and got a crappy B on the assignment, oh well.

I need to read this book, I only know about it because they quoted it in
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Kinda sad.....T-T "I thought what I'd do is, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes" If I remember correct.

The last time I read the book was in 11th grade in high school (I got a C on my presentation because my teacher hated the book, so I was doomed before I even began) so I'll keep my opinions to myself lest I totally screw up something. I still think the book is a classic.
