Now, I don't HATE CG,please understand this. But is anyone else getting a little bit tired of 3-D? I know that this is a giant step in cartoons and possibly filmmaking. But, I don't think we should yet cel animation die. I am a hardcore otaku,(as many other members of this forum are also) so maybe my view on this whole thing might be a tad.........jaded at best. But, technology shouldn't get in the way of good storytelling.
I don't know.......tell me what you guys think. Thanx!!

I don't even remember a 2D cel movie this year, it's all about the CG... for me, I like early 2D movies like the Disney movies before Pocahontas (thats when it started to go downhill, capped off by Hercules and a few others-i'm not saying they're bad, but they don't hold a candle to Lion King, Mermaid, or Alladdin). They're all good if you get the right movies...graphics don't matter as much as content...

2D animation is extensive work, making dozens of drawings to draw, ink, paint, and film for mere seconds of footage. 3D, on one hand, can be highly extensive initially (for modelling), but can be lesser intensive man labor-wise as the animation queues are made and the computer renders it. A few talented CGI animators and some computer systems are more affordable than a mass of people to haul the workforce for 2D animation.
Secondly, it's the popular mentality. More students are working towards 3D animation than ol' 2D; and to the casual audience, 3D looks more impressive than 2D, and may see 2D as being "cheap".
Overall, 3D won out due to costs and marketing.

So yeah. I like 2D animation more most of the time. Maybe it's just the nostalgia of growing up on it that's talking though.

She'll actually laugh out loud at those cartoons, but at the newer stuff like Sponge Bob and Fairly Odd Parents, she just kind of stares at them.
But back on the subject, I think both 3D and 2D have their place, depending on many factors. However, 3D is becoming far more commonplace, and the market has really been over-saturated this summer, resulting in a bit of disenchantment in this type of media. And it's been around for so long now, it's not like when we were all wowed by Toy Story.

Oh,God yes. Advent Children looked amazing. You couldn't really do a movie like that in 2-D. (Touche). I guess with all the computer animated movies that came out this summer, It just got too dull for me. That's all.
