So I got to preview this tonight, since I work at a local theatre, and I wanted to get others' opinions on it once they've seen it. For those wondering, yes the entire movie is shot first-person from a handheld home video camera, and no it's not like Blair Witch; the first-person perspective is the only way they're similar. I personally enjoyed the movie, and while I know about the viral marketing involved on the internet and am familiar with Abrams' previous work with Alias and Lost, I'm predicting a lot of people will come in with unrealistic expectations.
Put it this way, I got to see what I wanted and expected to see. Not all of my questions got answered, but that's okay for the obvious reason of sequel possibility. I think a lot of people are going to expect to have everything dumped on them about what the creature is, where it came from, etc., and that's not Abrams' style.
If you can get past that though, Cloverfield's a fun little thrill ride. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it in the future.

It should be interesting enough, I'm hoping it's close to a 2 hour movie.

I wish I could have went tonight to the huge theater in Boston, but nobody close by wanted to see it. Thus tomorrow with friends about a half hour away we'll be seeing it. I'm actually interested to see what the crab like things on the monsters back attack like. They better shred bitches up & make cool noises while doing so.

There were actually a LOT of people there, and everyone seemed disappointed at the open endingness of it and that everything wasn't just spoon fed as far as this is what it is, this is where it came from, this is what it wants. They're idiots though.
Also it's an hour and twenty four minutes for whoever wanted to know.
And for those who stayed and couldn't decipher what the transmission said at the end, it said It's still alive, backwards and garbled.

I was the last to even hear of this movie before it went fully public. Why does this always happen.

Apparently there was something after the credits.
Reading from a source it says that after the credits, someone or whatever was saying "its still alive" backwards. Someone confirm?

Someone confirm? | If you would've checked the spoiler tags in my post not 3 posts up, you would've seen I already posted it AND spoiler tagged it myself, which I took the liberty of doing for you too.

seriously, get out and see it. this is a movie that you almost definitely will not be able to experience in the same capacity at home. you are missing out if you don't see it.

Would have been a little more realistic if Abrams would have gone for an R rating and actually let people say "fuck" cause I'm sure anyone in that situation, no matter how much of a goody-good they are, would be saying "fuck" a lot. I'm hoping for an epic sequel where the military studies the creatures that "fell" off the monster, and find out where it's from, what it's made of, and what its weakness is. I'm speculating it has something to do with this made up Slusho drink.
And the scene near the end when Hud is just standing there staring at the monster was awesome. By that time he was probably thinking "fuck it, people need to see this thing if they ever see this tape."
