If you insist man... | So you're saying that there's no point watching movies at home if you've seen them in theatres.
Even if you enjoyed them and want to replicate the experience in the best way you're capable.
Gotcha.

Gotcha. | I think you've completely missed the point I've been saying for many posts now. Quote:

That said, the thrill ride/experience of it is for the most part, gone. All youre left with is...a guy running madly with a camera. | I never said movies aren't worth watching after you've seen them in theaters. What I said was that because Cloverfield depended so heavily on the theater experience (huge dark room, incredible sound, huge projector), it will not work well at all at home.
Sure, as Kaze said, maybe theres bonus content and cool stuff on the DVD's that might make it somewhat worth it, but I doubt most people are going to sit through the whole movie at home unless they didn't catch it at all in theaters, in which case I feel really bad for them. | |

Sure, it's an "experience" in the theatre, but it's a different experience at home. Just because the first experience is superior, all subsequent experiences are not worthless.

however, a friend of mine pointed out that watching at least this movie at home could work out better. you're (supposedly) watching secret, private video that you shouldn't have. it's a big secret, and the idea that you have somehow gained access to this and are watching it kind of adds to the feeling of "oh shit this is bad"

The ending made me go "what the fu*k". Yet when I saw the critics ratings, people at Rottentomatoes.com gave it a high 76%.
I don't get it.
So yeah, I guess that you pay for the experience and not for the whole gist of story (like a "thrill ride" as mentioned earlier by another person).
You pay for the experience I guess. Though many people would find it difficult to view the film as it uses 'Cinéma-vérité' as a style of cinematography. Cinéma vérité - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"As if it was shot from a video camera/camcorder perspective".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It will be an HD-DVD exclusive though (since they have an 18-month contract with HD DVD working group & Toshiba).
Yet, given the trends (which favor Blu-ray well over HD-DVD), I guess it won't have the capacity to sell that well.
I mean, after Transformers, what other HD-DVD exclusive have they released that garnered sales equivalent to Blu-ray SW sales figures??? Plus, with the WB announcement showing their shift to Blu-ray exclusivity, what momentum does HD-DVD have left?
So yeah in short, Blu-ray WILL eventually gobble HD-DVD.
P.S.
Though on the bright side, this will force Toshiba to release heavy discounts on HD-DVD hardware just to stay alive. I imagine 1080p-compatible players will be released for less than 100 American dollars within the year.
Just so that they can stay alive

Anyways, just seen the movie and was really disappointed 1/2 way into the movie. If it wasn't for Hud telling jokes throughout the movie, and his character in general I would've been done with the movie 20 minutes into it. I'd love to see the making of the movie once it hits the consumers. | |

Like a home movie sorta thing. | |

Anyways, my true thoughts was that this movie was pretty bleh. It's worth bootlegging(just to see the monster) but i wouldn't recommend to see it in theaters. It left out a lot of information and the camera did kind of give me a headache. Plus, my friend almost threw up after the movie. I guess the ending was a good way to make people watch the sequel. | |

instead of wah-wahing because oh nooooooooo they didn't sum it all up in a neat package at the end, why don't you try like
thinking about it
also i am pretty sure there isn't going to be a sequel

But usually movies that make you think tend to get mixed reviews. It would be a nice novel

But in a new style that doesn't involve a handheld camera. At least that's what they're shooting for.
Also, they've got a prequel manga in Japan called kishin or something along those lines. | |
