I almost lost my lunch at a few parts during the movie but otherwise I loved it. Not many scary movies actually get me scared anymore but this one did.
Trapped in a mountain cave with something you don't know.
Close to the end it starts to slow down and lose its focus IMO. But still pretty fun.
Anyone else already seen this?
Few questions for those that didn't get lost in the action:
ZOMG SPOLIERS
For the one that broke their leg and split it with the bone sticking out. (I nearly almost vomited when they put it back) Was she the first one to die being dragged away by those things?
And at the end, why did the chick stab the other one? I never really payed attention as to why.

As well
I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE WHO LAUGH DURING THE MOVIE
I forgot to add that to the original post but it pisses me off so much when people laugh at serious parts throughout the movie. It just kills the mood.

Honestly, when the ads say, "From the studio that brought you Hostile and Saw," like it's sonething the be proud of... Ugh... There hasn't been a good horror movie in a looooong time.
...Uh, well, I sort of take that back. Land of the Dead was passable. It could have been better, but it did a lot of things right, and it was nice seeing Romero back in the saddle. And I never did see Silent Hill, but everything I heard was good.
So, aside from those, there hasn't been a good horror movie in a loooong time.

Saw and Saw 2 though. Those movies were HELLA good.

The vengeance factor comes from the fact that she went insane during the trip through the cave, not too hard seeing how as she was already psychologically damaged from the car crash.
Also, Axem Ranger, I was denouncing the movie, too, because the critics called it "the next Alien." That's a bullshit call on any film, but I went into The Descent knowing it got three stars, and it certainly deserved that. Horror films have not gotten me past the suspense state since I was a child, but this film got me to the point where I was making hundreds of guesses in a frantic attempt to figure out what would happen next. It builds an atmosphere of authentic fear and not cheesy jumpy build-ups. Go watch the movie.

Total Tokens: 28,755.33 Donate Tokens | My problem with recent horror movies is that they are divided into two categories, and both of them suck. The PG-13 movies are all Shamalyan-esque weird-out fests, with lots of lame plot twists (and plots), weak endings, overdramatic scores, and cheesy expositions. They try to be suspenseful, and rely on one or two jump-out-of-your-seat moments to justify calling it a horror movie. The R movies are all gore/shock films. The characters usually exists on one dimension or less, the plots serve only to facilitate more people dying needlessly and horribly. And it's hard to really be affected by the death of a character that you don't know anything about or care about, which is how most of these films roll.
And while I admit that one or two of these shitfests have made me a little uneasy when I'm in my seat, that feeling never carries over past the rolling of the credits. Maybe it's because the situations, characters and premises seem so utterly ridiculous (Saw) that nothing really lingers, but... It's not like how every time I see Day of the Dead, I'm strafing around corners in my house every day for a week. It's not like the time me and a few buddies watched Evil Dead and The Thing in my basement in the dark at 1:00 AM. Newer "scary movies" (except for, to a limited extent, Land of the Dead) don't scare me. So not only are they not good, but they aren't enjoyable either.
That said, my lame friend Alex will probably buy this when it comes out on DVD, so I may see it yet.

Like, my heart never raced throughout the whole movie like this movie did and I can admit it was damn scary. I'm 20 BTW, but this was insane. If you guys have seen "The Hills Have Eyes", this movie rivals that in blood and gore, maybe even tops it.

The advertisements brag about how much gore there is in it. Last I checked, lots of fake blood doesn't make a movie good on that merit alone.
...Actually, now that I think about it, none of the TV spots I've seen say anything about the plot.
Meh, maybe I'm just too much of a pretentious-quasi-fil buff to "get" popcorn flicks.

Adding to that, it doesn't rely on gore to scare you. Sure, it tries to gross you out (one scene in particular will get to most people), but you'll come to realize that the immense amount of gore in some scenes is not the focus and it's just background stuff (this gore is just scenery, no action).
Yes, every other horror film is shitty, but not this one. Just watch it.

I really should read up on my own time but is the cast mostly lesser-known people? That's groovy with me in my horror movies.

The part where that chick busted open her calf part of the leg was freaking nasty. I almost lost it right there as I never saw anything that disgusting beforee.

That's my other problem with the recent trend in horror movies that have gore as a main selling point- it always almost fails to impress.

And most of the R movies these days are just gore, gore, and more gore. And I guess the director thinks that if there is lots of gore, it's a scary movie. Like the Saw movies. They made me cringe at some parts, but it wasn't scary at all (But don't get me wrong, both of the Saws were excellent movies).
