Default General anime discussion thread

I know there's already a thread like this in FB, but that feels like more of an anti-anime/joke thread, hence why they call it "animu". For those who are too scared to walk in FB and discuss anime, you're in luck. There is no mroe media discussion, so welcome to your new home, obligatory anime thread.

I have not been watching too many series as of late. I cannot find anything to buy and I'm saving up for HS in December. Oddly enough, no dubs of anime that arose my interest, even before being released. The latest anime I wached was volume 11 of CardCaptors Sakura. It made me regret about not buying anymore of the series due to the awfulness that was volume 10. Volume 11 got more hits than misses. I was impressed by that after the trainwreck that were episodes 36 to 39 and the movie. CCS is one of those series which should have not gotten a movie, and more-so a dub. We know what's wrong with the dub, so hopefully I won't be needing to go through the little song-and-dance. I also have recently found not only downloads for Samurai Pizza Cats, but a DVD with the first 5 episodes. I tell you folks, it's not a want, but rather, a need, as in, I really fucking need that DVD. I would watch more anime, but I'm too lazy to use bittorrent and I hate watching anime on YouTube.

Talk about whatever you wish.

Isn't there a whole forum for this?

[Edit]Apparently not.

P.S. If you aren't classified as overly "wierd", The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya might be amusing to you. I am one of those weird people, so little in it surprises me, which throws off the rhythm and humor of the show for me.

I think that DVD is a bootleg. I looked at the image and it looks very bootleg-ish. Whether it is or not, Samurai Pizza Cats is good stuff and I wish the entire series was available in DVD. Unfortunately, it's a tough sell. From a business standpoint, it's an obscure product that has too many episodes (49, if I remember right) to go into a standard "Complete Collection" set without it being really expensive, and there's no indication enough people would buy a first volume to warrant bringing out a second or a third. The fact that it's really good stuff might come third or fourth on the list of reasons to give it better treatment. Oh well...thank you, Internet.

Anyway, I was recently introduced to the goodness that is Read or Die and its various offspring. That seems to be how it always goes: I find out about stuff when it's long past. If anyone hasn't checked out R.O.D, at least get the OVA, as it has a very catchy score and lots of good stuff. R.O.D. the TV starts out slow, with a lot of filler, but gets really good really quick.

That's how it is for me when it comes to such things like Azumanga Daioh, Family Guy, Beavis & Butthead, etc.

Read or Die is an awesome anime! It's currently the only series I have on DVD (both OVA and TV). It has one of the best musical scores I've heard in a while which made it a prime canindate for a simfile! The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is also good. So far I've seen 11 episodes of it and it looks pretty good.

With the current explosion of drama at the wannabe fansub camp, I've gone without School Rumble for a while. It makes me sad, because it was shaping up to be a decent season.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was the suprise show of the season for me. The brief description that a friend gave me was "based off of novels, girls in bunny outfits" and I almost pased on the show.

There hasn't been much out there that really makes me excited anymore. =/ BECK got licenced recently, but by Funimation, so I'm not sure if I'm going to pick it up or not.

It's not like they'll take anything out of the Beck DVD's. Just get it because it'll still have the subs and all that. Funimation's also surprisingly one of the best companies in the US as far as anime releases are concerned.

Haruhi wins for now.

I've also recently caught up on some older series like Shura no Toki, finished Kenshin, got Planetes, and I am most DEFINITELY watching Eureka Seven like everyone else should be.

I'm also still waiting on the last episode of Noein to come out. Fantastic show.

I tend to read a lot of manga too, with Berserk and Hajime no Ippo taking the front and Eyeshield21, Naruto, Bleach, and Prince of Tennis taking the second tier.

Funimation may have changed, but I dunno, I just don't like them much. Call it irrational. I'll probably still get the BECK DVDs. It makes me wonder how they are going to do the music acts. Also, if they are going to fix the MONGORIAN CHOP SQUAD subtitle mishap that occured in the first few episodes of BECK.

Eggman is right, watch Eureka Seven.

And then watch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, I'm loving that show so far.

Anyone looking for another nice action/comedy romp should check out Desert Punk. Short bounty hunter/jerk and a big-breasted rival? Win-Win.

Also, Haruhi wins for the random force-strippings in almost every episode.

I, myself, fall into the group of anime-watchers. I watch Adult Swim on Cartoon Network.

Currently watching on AS:

Evangelion
FMA
Inuyasha
