As far as Lucky Star is concerned I just never liked Moe anime in general. There might be one or two exceptions depending on what is defined as "moe". | The *ahem* "Otakudom" generation you are referring dropped dead in the beginning of the turn of the century (maybe 2002 at the latest). Associating this anime era/generation with the one that lasted from the early/mid 9080s to the late 1990s is like comparing apples and oranges. What was popular then and now are complete parallel opposites, but in a few ways alike. For example, back then DBZ was the big dog o campus when it came to popularity in the U.S., and what's popular now? Why, it none other than Naruto (a show I refer to as "DBZ with ninjas"), just like how both an apple and an orange are fruit. However, the coloring methods and where they have the drawing and animation done are different. Instead of hand-dawn, you have computer-colored. Drawn and animated in Japan to Korea due to out-sourcing being cheaper. The new big hits and favorites of the online community have also varied greatly. Back then it was Eva and Ranma, and now it's Haruhi and Lucky [strike]That it can rely on parodies and shameless advertisement used for jokes or this show would be cancelled before finishing its 24 episode run[/strike] [strike]Shit[/strike] Star (sorry, CarL, but the show was just asking for it in all of its mediocrity). Even the children's shows are different. In the U.S., people were watching Pokémon and whatever anime tehre was on public television back in the past. Now, they are watching Mär, Prince of Tennis, Naruto, and whatever bullshit Toonami still plays. Hell, we even had a dub that was so bad it was epic this decade. Duel Master's is this generation's Samurai Pizza Cats.
"Our" generation is over. Anime, much like television itself, is never consistent in its popular entertainment programs. You, Morning, and I just have to accept that the shows to "the times" are and will always be different from what we enjoyed and what was popular several years ago. In the end, they all have one thing in common: You will have to buy what you enjoyed in the past on DVD, much like your favorite Saturday morning or weekday afternoon cartoon shows. Quote: |

Call me Mr. C
Either way, every time I see any show shoving down a blanant advertisement down my throat through shameless cameo appearances, it makes me wonder why I watch anime when I could be watching a Goddamn commercial instead. The reason why I am pissed that Lucky Star did that in episode 16 was not only because it was a shitty joke, but also because they injected a commercial into a television show which is already essentially a commercial for all of their manufactured products and their series that will be out on DVD in a few months. How would you like it if Honda were to be in any show you watched taking up several minutes of your program not even trying to hide the fact that Gregory House really wants you to get a new pick-up truck for "no money down" or "1.6% APR" or "no payments until 2010" for five whole minutes basically saying "YO SHITHEAD BUY OUR MOTHER-FUCKING TRUCKS HONKHONK" instead of using those 5 minutes to think up of original material?
The Haruhi dance was only a ploy to hide the fact that the writers are so half-assed that they cannot take the time to think up of any original material. If I were to watch a new episode of The Simpons next fall and it ended 10 minutes before 8:30 and the rest of time was filled with Oxy Clean infomercial or an extended commercial telling us to buy the DVDs of the most recently finished season of Family Guy, I'd be pissed off to the high heavens.
Shameless advertising, thy name is Kyoto Animation.

Voltes V is the most popular anime here, and even kids know the blasted opening theme by heart. | What, no Combattler V? Why not complete the trinity?
I found an old DVD in my drawever I was surprised I haven't watched yet. New Getter Robo. I think it's a 2004/5 remake of the old series, I think. It was only 13 episodes long, but man, I almost cried manly tears of manly joy after seeing Ryouma attempt to attack a giant monster when he wasn't even in his mech.
I'd like to see any current generation mecha pilot do that.

Since when did Naruto have a single ninja in it?
Besides that...
"current" things I'm watching are
Claymore,
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai,
Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei,
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann.
Things I've kept and haven't watched completely include Akagi, Black Lagoon, Code Geass, Diebuster, Fate/Stay Night, Guyver the Bio-boosted Armor, Rozen Maiden, and Scrapped Princess. I was also going to consider DLing Underwater Ray Romano.

I heard the Melancholy or Haruhi Suzumiya was pretty confusing or that you can watch the anime in any order you like. That true?
Is Elemental Gelade or Eremtar Gerad or however it's spelt any good as well?

You can also watch the episodes in a certain order where the story will actually go as it's supposed to, or you can watch any episode whenever. There's a lot of filler in that series.

The events that occur, however, are out-of-order. Haruhi, in the next-episode previews, calls out the wrong episode but it's in the correct sequence of events as the creators intended. The last episode (as according to Kyon) is really mid-way through the series. The episode where they're a baseball team occurred after the "last" episode.

I've seen all the episodes that have aired on [adult swim] so far since last March. They just aired episode 26 last weekend. I love the 3rd opening theme! Anyways it's a excellent series with a very good story. I believe that the Sci-Fi channel is going to air the movie sometime on their Ani-Monday block so I'll have to catch that too.

Here in the Philippines, we are already finished with it and I must say that the English dub is top-notch (official English dub by Bang Zoom for Sony Pictures Television International). I mean, just hearing the voice of Kari Wahlgren is already enough to make the English dub worth watching. Other notable voices including that of Diva, Kai, David, Julia and the French guy (played by Crispin Freeman with a french accent )
Superb english dub I must say.
