General anime discussion thread

I actually thought Anemone's was pretty good. She's really nothing more than a kill machine where they are right now anyway. Holland's also good.

The main problem with dubs these days is that they overpronounce japanese words. Her name is not AY OO RECKA. It's Eureka. Yooreeka. We have an english word. The Japanese even try to say her name like that. Naruto's really guilty of that too. Any time a JP word shows up, they pause for a second and then pronounce it like the Mendoza skit on Saturday Night Live.

Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex should really be the pattern for other shows to follow. Lines are just delivered and they all sound right.

Today is indeed Haruhi day. Just waiting for 13 to finish so I can watch.

I'll also be starting Utawarerumono since one of my friends gave me a DVD with the first 10 episodes. Dunno if it's good but I guess I'll find out.

It's not TERRIBLE, but it's "meh". :< It leaves a little in the cloudy area still. Just not NEARLY as bad as the anime.

Anemone's isn't THAT bad, and Renton's is growing on me, but for the love of god why did they have to fuck up Dominic's voice so bad? Episode 48-49 will be a guaranteed laugh fest in english when it hits here sometime next spring.

Get Backers is better in manga, so you can consider that if you haven't read it.

Ah! My Goddess! is one of the best masterpiece ever created. And it's never overrated.

It's either going to be soul-numbingly depressing or one of the best things ever to exist

Also, I have never seen the anime (I heard it really sucks but Kilga liked it), but the manga, Negima! is currently the only one I'm really following right now, 'cause I can't afford to be buying a lot. By the way, Ichigo Mashimaro, the incredible show of a little while ago. Watch it, if you haven't.

IMO the anime wasn't that great. I don't know if the manga is better though. I think there is another season or ova coming soon too.


On the subject od the PPG anime, I can't disagre with you. I really want to see it surpisgnly. It's the only new anime, I'm going to be interested in this summer. I have a funny feeling the proffesor is no longer square :/.

I don't know about the anime, but if it wasn't that great then the manga is probably much much better seeing as the manga is one of my favorite things ever.

for the love of god get Negima! 10. It has so much Nodoka its maddening.

I was also thinking about getting NGE: Angelic days manga, it sounds like a nice turn from the original, more depressing storyline of NGE.

I've only watched a few epsiodes of the dubs and I realized right then and there that they will absolutely make the latter half of the show suck. They're going to need to get the correct emotions which I don't believe that some of those voice actors can do. Of course, I haven't seen many episodes so I'm not sure if my judgement is based on any truth, but most people agree with me that the dub is absolute crap.

Anyway, now that I've finished Eureka SeveN I'm currently not watching an anime, but mind you guys I don't really like anime very much. In my anime-watching career I've only finished Mai-Hime, FLCL, Azumanga Daioh, and Eureka SeveN (I also watched Akira but that doesn't count because it sucked). Does anyone have any suggestions for me based on what my apparent tastes are? I mean, I liked the love story/serious aspects of Eureka SeveN and Mai-Hime, but on the other side of that spectrum I also liked the goofy, light-heartedness of Azumanga Daioh (which speaking of this UKN... give me back my money!). FLCL I loved in part due to the soundtrack made by the pillows.

I think most of all, I like anime with excellent character development. Azumanga did this well, Mai-Hime had a lot of this, and Eureka SeveN is basically based on characters changing. So if anyone has a suggestion, please, I need an anime to take my mind off of the feeling of loss I have because I realized that I'm never going to be able to experience the feeling of watching Eureka SeveN for the first time ever again. It's so heartbreaking.
