None of the posters have a good shot of the monster.

The top-grossing Korean film of all time deserves the title. When I first heard about it shortly after its Korean release, I knew I wanted to see it. Critics couldn't help but praise the movie for its originality. Granted, it's a monster flick, but it's done in such an original way that the genre has been reformed.

So I saw it at the Honolulu International Film Festival. And oh my God, I was pleased. Not satisfied, because I wanted to see it again, but I wasn't able to make the encore showing. I've deemed it my favorite film of all time. It's so rare to find a film that so effectively mixes humor, drama, horror, and action into one movie.

Has anyone been able to experience this yet? It's supposedly coming to America for a January release, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

Actually according to what I've read, Korea has a large number of hyped flops and shitty releases just like America. The thing is, they hardly ever make it out of Korea so it looks like Korean films are godly.

But I'll still admit that Korean films are godly because the ones that do make it out are simply beautiful in some way when compared to American/Japanese/Chinese/whatever counterparts.

Wasn't this film a ripoff of a well-known anime/manga *cough*Patlabor*cough* ?

Judging by the trailer and the various synopses I read...

No. No it is not. At all.

I've seen The Host three times. I had to look up what Patlabor was.

There's no mistake that the creatures look similar but the movies sure as hell aren't. They take the plots into extremely different directions from what I can tell.

Ahh okay. Well, I'm gonna check it out anyway - for the most part, I really like Korean films. I'm not gonna pass judgement here so please don't hate me - it's the highest-rated Korean film ever and that's got to count for a LOT. I'm just going from what I've heard.
