Marketplace Rating: 0 | Manga vs Anime, and why I read more. So lots of people watch more anime than read more manga.
That would be fine, but I just get... bored of anime. I can take manga with me and access it at any given time. So it has more appeal to me, instantly.
Now when manga gets made into anime, it loses ALL appeal to me, unless it's an original rethinking and/or retelling (see My-HiME [I know, backwards on that one >___<] Neon Genisis Evangelion, and ESPECIALLY Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, one of the best animes of all time).
Now look at my favorite animes. Lain, Boogiepop, and Paranoia Agent. All of them were anime before they were manga, if they even made it that far. (Boogiepop has multiple outlets including anime, novels, manga and film. Lain had one small manga in Abe's artbook and Paranoia Agent has no manga to my knowledge). This allows the production team to focus SOLELY on the PRODUCTION of the anime. When crossing over from manga they have to cut for time, flow the episodes, and a bunch of other nasty blocks that impead the overall quality of the anime.
That's my opinion. Very few anime add something new compared to there manga form. Trigun did that, so did Bebop. Actually, bebop did it PERFECTLY. Otherwise... well. See Initial D, or Bleach, or hell, NARUTO is the WORST. By adding vocals, they took away the best parts of the experience when you read it. Rurouni Kenshin was another one of those.
Azumanga Daioh's anime took 30 seconds longjokes and dragged them out to 3 minutes, thus ruinging my favorite part of that manga.
Also, compare some of the artwork between anime and manga. If you ever WATCHED Initial D, it lokked like CRAP. But on paper, Shuichi's art style made sense. It was asian, it looked asian, and had an asian feel to it. Which was perfect. Would Initial D work if it was Moe? I thought not.
Though the anime was not moe, it lost it's sense of gritty reality Shuichi's inking and toning styles carried in the manga.
Now maybe you're too lazy to read. I'm too lazy to put the DVD in, scroll through menus, watch the anime and end it. Though 21st Century anime is changing this, manga's just too easy, fast, and overall BETTER to substitute.
Discuss on. SHOOT TO ILL.

...I like non-filler Naruto too though =<.

Evangelion was first released as an anime. The manga came way later.
I usually choose manga over anime, because it's easier (and more accessible) to find around here. Also, sometimes the anime needs to change some things on the storyline, specially when it's gonna end and the manga is still running, and the changes are sometimes very "WTF"-ish. I see Ai Yori Aoshi, Fruits Basket, Nadesico, Kenshin or even Dai no Daibouken (the anime was dropped :< ) and they prove my point.

You learn a LOT more about the characters from manga than anime because the original creators have complete control. Death Note anime follows very closely to the original manga, which is good. It's ever-so-slightly dragged out but unless you're very critical, you won't notice.
Having worked with both anime (fansubbing) and manga (scanlating), I can tell you that manga is a LOT easier to do - I just wish most groups had a semblance of the English language...
Shameless Plug: C1 will release more Death Note anime soon -- as well as the movie. We'll teach those T-W and L-E bastards! :P

Marketplace Rating: 0 | The only anime that I watch is anime that would be far better in anime form than manga;
i.e.
prince of tennis, eyeshield 21 (sports, they need movement, etc.)
evangelion (due to special effects and moving expressions of characters, and sound is huge)
otherwise, manga > anime

Marketplace Rating: 5 | Except the story in Prince of Tennis became absolutely horrible and the animation budget really dropped off once they caught up to the manga and started making up their own stuff during the Rikkaidai match. The manga has proven itself far better at this point. I loved watching PoT up until the Rikkai match though.
Hajime no Ippo is really fun to watch but it only goes up to episode 75 while the manga just keeps on trucking in its pure awesomeness forever so it sort of forces you to read it if you have any intention of learning more, which everyone should because it's easily the best sports manga in existence ever for all time and it's not up for debate. Although PoT's probably my second.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Well, in some cases, yes, the anime is not as good as the manga.
But in other cases, like in Fruits Basket(yes, i love that manga/anime).
In Furuba, the anime stopped half way through the manga. Never really finishing. I don't know why, but i hope they continue it soon. ;P(shhh kyosuke)
Furuba was one of those that I think looked a bit better in the anime.
Others, like Rurouni Kenshin, the manga and the anime differed so much when it got to a certain part, you're like, "Wait, that didn't happen in the manga!"
But if you take into account "Love Hina", the anime sliced off a considerable amount of the romance. (Mostly due to funding and lack of support, but either way...)
I don't really have a preference, it depends really on which anime/manga you are talking about

| More like "the anime was totally ruined". The normal TV series ended up greatly, in my opinion, but unfortunately the OVAs felt too empty and rushed. You can't develop one new and interesting character (Kanako) in just 4 episodes :/
They could have just made another season to explain all those parts of the manga ;( ^^'

No matter how well, the artist draws emotion, it's better depctied and more effective with the music and smooth animation of anime.
Aside from that, battle scenes and conflicts are left up to imagination as well, because the manga format is only left with a few sounds blurbs here and there and nothing more. Although the anime plot is usualy condenseded from the manga, I prefer anime over manga purely over artistic reasons. I hate imagaing things for myslef, unless it's in a real book. Otherwise, I really don't have a problem with manga besides that. It's like reading a superman coming and then seeing the cartoon or movie. People enjoy seeing Superman come to life, the same applies to anime, and it's why I prefer it over manga.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | I have no preference, for me it really just depends on the series. Anime has motion, which as said before, is good because it's hard to understand battle scenes in manga. On the other hand manga I think has better plotlines [if it was a manga originally turned to anime].
And then there's Fullmetal Alchemist, which I love both the anime and the manga. The anime was well thought out, for a series that was originally a manga. I like the art in the anime as well. The manga was just. The manga. I can't even describe it. But it is very good =D
Death Note which someone mentioned before is also very very good, the anime AND the manga.
