Talking Nightwish

Hey guys, just making this topic to see who on Bemanistyle is..well into Nightwish.
For those who don't know Nightwish is a metal band with a sort of...opera feel to it.
Anyway, personally I love em and they're my favorite band easily...but...the thing is...I've always wanted to have...all...their music.
For me it's so hard to get it!
I mean the only CDs I have are:
-Wishmaster
-Century Child
-Once

I want Oceanborn soooo...bad...like insanely bad.

Then I look at Wikipedia and I see all these "limited editions" and all that jazz...so I feel like theres tons of songs I've never heard...let alone the live versions!
Now I'm not asking for the MP3s...I'm just asking for ideas...
Or we can just discuss how kick ass Nightwish is >_>
I hope the bassist becomes lead singer...

I never really liked Nightwish. You can call me sexist, but I never really got used to the idea of a female singer for a metal band. The singer just didn't have the gruffness I felt that metal bands needed.

Oh thats not sexist dude...sexist would be saying girls shouldn't sing at all.
And..I would kill for their upcoming albums to feature solely the bassist as a singer..

I like they're instruments, not their lyrics. I can stand 2 or 3 songs, and after that it really starts to hurt my ears. Personally, they're instrumental songs are the best. I LOVE Moondance!!

Oh yeah man! woot Moondance is one of my faves..
I actually think they'd do quite well doing more instrumentals...
As for the lyrics, I like them..but I've grown used to them..but I still prefer songs like
-Planet Hell
-The Pharoh Sails to Orion

And such..more...metaly songs ^_^

Okay, I have to admit. I do like the how the lyrics in Planet Hell sound. Especially the beginning how it just keeps chanting. Normally I hate that, but for some reason it sounds better in that song.

The Once album sucked. I'm just gonna get that out of the way. Biggest sellout ever. Completely commercial sounding, none of the amazing songwriting that went into Century Child or Oceanborn.

And Tarja's a bitch. I'm glad she's gone. Yes, it was interesting to hear a truly operatic style in a metal song from a female vocalist, but really, her talent was overstated.

You know who doesn't get the respect he deserves in the band? Tuomas. Seriously, he writes all the songs, plays all the keyboards and synths, and is generally the glue that holds the band together. Yet the bassist comes in and handles a few male vocals, and suddenly he's the star. He's not bad as a singer, but they can certainly do so much better.

Personally, I think this next album of theirs will make or break the band, and not just in terms of the vocalist. Will they continue on the commercial sound of Once to get more sales, or will they return to the more unique songwriting of the older albums? Time will tell...

Oh, and Gethsemane and Dead to the World. That's where it's at. 10th Man Down is pretty awesome, too, but Tarja really shouldn't have been the main vocalist for that song.

I'm a fan of Nightwish, too... but only a few of their songs. Inconsistency is an issue with them, it seems...

Hmm Dead to the World...yay love it.
How about The Kinslayer, or Crownless!
And...yeah...I see what your saying dude...the bassist gets all the stardom...
But I love the instrumentals in this band..that doesn't mean I don't respect the other non-singers!

Oh and Tarja live...

Overrated only in the internet sense..
In the real world...there somewhat unknown and are shadowed by the more popular and ACTUALLY overrated bands.
