The Once album sucked. I'm just gonna get that out of the way. Biggest sellout ever. Completely commercial sounding, none of the amazing songwriting that went into Century Child or Oceanborn.
And Tarja's a bitch. I'm glad she's gone. Yes, it was interesting to hear a truly operatic style in a metal song from a female vocalist, but really, her talent was overstated.
You know who doesn't get the respect he deserves in the band? Tuomas. Seriously, he writes all the songs, plays all the keyboards and synths, and is generally the glue that holds the band together. Yet the bassist comes in and handles a few male vocals, and suddenly he's the star. He's not bad as a singer, but they can certainly do so much better.
Personally, I think this next album of theirs will make or break the band, and not just in terms of the vocalist. Will they continue on the commercial sound of Once to get more sales, or will they return to the more unique songwriting of the older albums? Time will tell...
Oh, and Gethsemane and Dead to the World. That's where it's at. 10th Man Down is pretty awesome, too, but Tarja really shouldn't have been the main vocalist for that song.
