Onegai Teacher Onegai Teacher is, to me, a very enjoyable experience.
OT gets big points for being the rare one-of-a-kind series that EXACTLY follows the manga. You will not miss a single thing if you end up watching or reading one or the other. You've seen all it has to offer...if you watched it though, you get a nice extra which I'll get to in later.
OT is quite short actually, which is very unfortunate for how high the story quality is. It has SOME fantasy/sci-fi elements but it's treated minorly in a good way. In other words, there is heavy emphasis on the characters and the story. The manga is damn short. I finished reading it in a night. The show is 13 episodes that are 20+ minutes long, which means you only need a single afternoon for a marathon viewing (4.5 to 5 hours).
The story is basically the trials between Kei Kusanagi and Mizuho Kazami with their relationship. Although it's a sort of relationship that's forbidden, that's really not the case as the point is about the integrity of their relationship. Not even the fact that she's an alien gets in there (remember, "alien" doesn't mean shit on the appearance, durr). The execution of the episodes is done well in a mature manner with the usual cute or hilarious moment that guarantees a laugh every time. Onegai Teacher does not disappoint.
Minor quibbles include very rare drops in the voice acting (dub-wise...I should REALLY watch an episode with Japanese) which really isn't irritating at all. Another is the soundtrack, which I believe is more prominent. The upbeat stuff sounded cheesy BUT don't ask me why but the atmospheric, melancholy synth stuff really makes up for it and it fits into the mood where you hear it.
Apparently the entire story fit into 12 episodes so comfortably, the creators decided to make a bonus episode! This is purely a gag episode which is for fanservice and laughs, even breaking the fourth wall for a few seconds. It got things pretty risqué and it too was done well in my opinion.
On a letter grading scale, Onegai Teacher would get a very solid high A, pretty close to an A+. It's worth your time.
I have no idea what's the deal with Onegai Twins, other than it takes place in the same universe as Onegai Teacher with the 'Teacher' characters making cameos or something. They're not vital to the story, AFAIK, but I heard it's not so good either. You can drop a line or two about it if you want but stick to Teacher here, not Twins. :P
(And no, I'm not gonna make a bunch of these threads. Everybody knows Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex are the shit.)
