What series should I start off with? What are your personal favorites.
GIVE ME YOUR BIASED OPINIONS. ;]
note: I know there's a general anime discussion and another anime thread, but this is Gundam. There are too many versions and this is my little Gundam discussion thread. teehee

That said:
Mobile Suit Gundam (Original)
Mobile Suit Gundam W
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
No particular order of preference, but as a huge mobile suit fan, these are the series that struck me the most.

I watched GW way back when it was on Toonami, so I can't tell you much there, but so far I have enjoyed Gundam 00. From what I hear it takes the series in a bit of a different direction from the older series though.
Out of curiosity, what game did you buy?

Gundam Wing seems to be a pretty big favorite amongst casual anime watchers, so that'd probably be your best bet.

Mobile Suit Gundam W/Mobile Suit Gundam Seed | Fix'd the order for you.
Seed and Wing are the worst places to start if you're planning to get into Gundam. They will skew how you view the rest of Gundam if they are your first experience, Seed in particular. Stay the fuck away from them before watching some other series for perspective first.
Other worthwhile series to watch, not in any order.
The original series, but be warned, the animation is so horrible in relation to now that it'll make you laugh/cry. But at it's time it was considered good. If you can't find it, just watch the 3 part movie. It basically sums everything you need to know, and takes out all the filler bits. THE WHITE BASE NEEDS SALT.
08th MS Team
0080 : War in the Pocket
Zeta Gundam
ZZ Gundam (absolutely worthless but funny for the first few eps)
Turn A Gundam (this is a must watch)
Turn X Gundam
G Gundam (extremely different from typical Gundam shows, basically a Super Robot show with Gundams)
Gundam F91
Char's Counterattack
Gundam Seed : Astray
forgot the name of this one, but it has the Blue Destiny units in it
Picking up the mangas is a good idea too, since some series are only in the manga.
Advance of Z (an insight on the 'good' side of the Titans and before Zeta Gundam)
Ecole de Ciel
G-Unit
Crossbone Gundam (extremely hard to find, imo)
Char's Deleted Affair (Char's relationship with loli-Haman, and events directly after the OYW)
Do not even touch Destiny or Stargazer unless you know they are absolute shit beforehand and are watching them just for the mechs, cause most of the characters are entirely worthless.
Out of curiousity, which game did you buy?

My first choice was Federation vs. Zeon, but it wasn't in stock. The case had been left out. Take note, I went there wanting a game, no research planned.
Thank you, everyone. It means a lot.

Zeonic Front is a fine game, but might be a tad too slow-paced for some audiences, myself included.
The xxx vs. xxx Gundam series games are a great place to start, if you prefer something more actioney. But mind you, don't look forward to learning anything storyline wise, it's mainly a versus game.
If you're looking to delve deeper into Gundam canon, try out Encounters in Space, Journey to Jaburo, or Gihren's Greed. Fun combat system, and you get to learn about all these interesting little side stories that they never show on the main series.
If you're big on strategy like myself, the SD Gundam : G Generation series are excellent. Chibi Gundams are hilariously awesome. Although you won't be finding any of them in English though, I think. But I've been playing them since young, and I had always got a vague idea of what was going on. Best chance of you getting any installment of this series is with the latest one, G Generation Spirits. It was probably easier for me to obtain them because I live in Asia, but you could try your luck.
Anything to help someone get into anything mecha related. Any more questions, you can ask either me or Machojoyride.

When you say x vs x is mainly a versus series, you don't mean something that's relative to Street Fighter? I remember there being a psx title for something similar.
I thought about Encounters in Space, its 20 dollars used- so its a possibility. I have mall gift cards that need to be spent.
My mall's gamestop had the SD Gundam game, but I can't quote on if it was the same one you're talking about. He only mentioned they had it, but the box was missing. The only thing he mentioned was they're chibi style. That one is 15 dollars.
I thought about Journey to Jaburo, but it looked like a lower graphic'd version of Zeonic Front in a nutshell. I saw a decent review for it and how it emphasized on the bullshit Char pulled when you got stunned by him and couldn't move out of the way, only to keep getting blasted.
Over all, I'm not very picky or hard to please when it comes to games. If the gameplay is rewarding, that's all that matters.

Journey to Jaburo was pretty fun for me, but yeah, lots of bullshit like perma-stuns, but avoidable once you get used to it.
The x vs x series is well, hard to explain. Basically a 3D, 'closed off' battlefield, in the sense that if you exit the borders, your mech will automatically turn around to go back in. Look up Gundam vs Gundam or Federation vs Zeon for a better idea.

i personally liked gundam X and G gundam
You should try the ACE (another centuries episode) series. it has a bunch of mechs from throughout the history of mech anime. It's very fun to play too

the way they handle different characters from alternate universes interacting with each other works great if you know the series they come from. i could call it one of the best fan fiction games i've played. you could really tell the people who worked on the game were real fans.

bitch got 2 names, Mobile suit gundam: Operation troy, and Mobile Ops: one year war.
