WHAT.

Underdog creation: 1964
Alvin & The Chipmunks creation: 1958
Transformers creation: 1984

If anything, they're LATE.

Just...The POS Underdog and Alvin films are...Well, they're not what many people had in mind...

I don't mind the CGI. I don't mind the casting (or what we know of it now). I don't even particularly mind the promo poster. What I DO mind is what the target audience is inevitably going to be. Young children, as in the under 10 crowd. The problem is that these movies are trying to work off nostalgia, but the kids they're targeting are too young to appreciate that. The people who would appreciate the nostalgia, meanwhile, are too old for the audience and do not have kids old enough to enjoy the movie with them.

Transformers worked because they made the action intense enough for the nostalgic crowd, while keeping it safe for the kids who would be experiencing Transformers for the first time. Any attempts to do the same to the Chipmunks or Underdog would be doomed to look downright ridiculous. But updating the series to keep in tune with the same age group as the old target audience would only bastardize the series. In short, a lose-lose situation.

So basically, it's too early for Underdog and the Chipmunks to get "nostalgic" films. It would be much better to wait until the original audience of those series got old enough to have kids that matched the target audience. Oh yeah, and keeping Disney away would be a must.

NOSTALGIA. SERIOUS BUSINESS.
But all they are going to be thinking is: "Take a look at these successful franchises; Ghostbusters, Alvin and the Chipmunks, TMNT, Underdog. Why allow ourselves to miss out on the money we made back then. All we need is a big movie to kick off a line of merchandise, and video games to bring the series back." Guess they're feeling nostalgic about the money. Because of this they don't create these movies carefully enough. And they all go the way of the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie.

The good news is that we will probably get TV show DVD releases out of this. I'm waiting for Alvin and the Chipmunks on DVD myself, and I especially want season 1 of The Real Ghostbusters to come out.

Oh, hurr. Goes to show I didn't look things up. Or think, for that matter. Nonetheless, the timing is still wrong for Underdog and not great for Chipmunks. Just tack another generation onto my count.

Oh man, that is so awesome. Instant ticket purchase for me. If they somehow manage to work the female chipmunks (Chipettes?; someone has to know who I mean) in there, it will be the greatest movie of all time.

Anyone remember the old episode where the Chipmunks met Mr. T? That needs to be in the movie.

Alvin doesn't want his hula hoop for Christmas anymore.

He wants an AK.

omg , I'm actually astounded. If it's a crappy concept , take it to Hollywood. I hope it's not a musical since my eardrums WILL bleed.
