Well, there's always Love Hina. Are you looking for harem-type shows specifically? Or anything that involves love and has a lot of jokes in it? I love Paradise Kiss. Although it's not completely lighthearted, it's still not depressing either.

Rumiko Takahashi (of Inu-Yasha fame) was originally well-known for her trio of romantic comedies.

Urusei Yatsura

Unlucky perv becomes betroved to a bikini-clad space alien girl. This series is the oldest and is generally wackier and bizarre compared to the others, especially as more aliens begin to drop by.

Maison Ikkoku

Much more down-to-earth, this series is the most toned-down of Rumiko's major works. It centers around a poor student living in a boarding house, trying to get into college. All this while dealing with his rowdy/strange tenents and gaining the love of his lovely young housing manager.

Ranma 1/2

A teenage martial artist is engaged to his father's training partner's daughter, but it's more hate than love. Unfortunately, it isn't long before the 2 have to (literally) fight off new suitors. Oh, and did I mention the boy turns into a girl in cold water?

There are a few others I can recommend:

Kimagure Orange Road

Another classic. This revolves around a love triangle of a psychic boy and his 2 love interests in a new town. It's similar to Maison Ikkoku, being more slice-of-life (aside from psychic powers).

Seto no Hanayome

A brand-new series (only available fansubbed for now). A young teen boy is forced to marry a mermaid girl who saved his life -- and is the daughter to the boss of a mermaid mafia. Hilarity surely ensues.

There's also His and Her Circumstances, but I hear the ending was disappointing. It's old-school cel painted (pre-1998), so if you're into that kind of thing you might want to give it a try anyway.

Fruits Basket.

Sorta.

More romance in the manga.
Anime is still funny.

Dude, Malev, you make me wish we could still give reputation points. That was an excellent post if I ever saw one!

I heard Ah My Goddess/Oh My Goddess was very good. It's about a young student who calls this phone number and ends up with this beautiful goddess for a girlfriend. Many hijinks ensue.

Chobits comes with the same premise, although in this case the otherworldly being is a computer (more like a robot in my opinion but they insist she is a COMPUTER). She is adorable and innocent and doesn't understand a lot of things, so a whooole bunch of humor results from her ignorance.

Don't you mean innocence?

And is this a thread worth keeping separate from the general-purpose anime thread?

Kare Kano is my favorite(actually leads the lead characters be a couple, imagine that), though the other recommendations are solid.

I was going to say Utena, but there's not much comedy(aside from the shadow girl segments during episodes), just a whole lot of drama.

Ichigo 100% has some good comedic elements in it, but I was extremely dissatisfied with the ending. Probably because the author was a cop-out.

Only the manga's worth it though. Overall it was great, but the ending was really just uninspired. Even with that outcome, it still could've been pieced together better. Although I can't find a source on it, I've heard that the ending was in part due to declining popularity, so Kawashita decided to rush it, I'm not sure though.
The anime though was horribly disappointing. Especially when you hear there's going to be an Ichigo 100% anime. Great! And it's being done by Madhouse. Great! Then you watch it. Ugh...
Honestly the anime took a few of the chapters from the manga, and mixed in a crapload of fanservice and alzy animation.

I"s was great.
It's maaainly just a manga.
Also, I've heard Video Girl Ai was good.
I"s and Video Girl Ai were by the same author,
Oh, he also did DNA2

REC

OH my gosh REC was amazing.
It's was short, simple, but very good.

Oh, and technically, NANA could be considered a Romantic Comedy because it's hilarious. So NANA too. It's my 2nd favorite manga of all time.

I second the recommendation of Kimagure Orange Road, though I find the manga to be much better.
