Yes, both of these are allowed to be distributed. Don't give me any shit.

"You're Beautiful" by Kid Nebulous

Guster's "Parachute (Brain Sugar Dance Cover)" by FFT

I'm not enough of a genre snob to know what these actually fall under so I'm having a really hard time finding anything remotely close to either. IDM is a really broad category of music, and searches for indietronica, the other thing Nebulous's piece is listed as, tends to unearth stuff that is more acoustic with electronic aspects tossed in as an afterthought. Can anyone suggest anything similar to these tracks?

That Kid Nebulous song was awsome. The only thing that i can recommend that sounds even remotely like that would be u-ziq or locust toybox.

Locust Toybox :: IDM Music by David Firth

You can download all the Locust Toybox albums off of his website, and if you want any u-ziq mp3s you can pm me for the 2 or 3 that i have.

Not sure what to tell you. As you've said, its a broad genre. You may both like and dislike things that are categorized as such. Listening is the only real way to find out.

You can search artists there. I generally recommend Kid 606 or Autechre to someone interested in getting started in this type of electronic music. Aphex Twin is almost too well known to even name, though he's worth mentioning and has some great material; Chosen Lords was a great recent release.

Yeah u-Ziq is apt as well. Definitely try out Lunatic Harness!

After you've accustomed yourself to this style, I highly recommend some of Squarepusher's stuff, but be careful. A lot of it is worth disposing of almost immediately. Music is Rotted One Note is highly recommended; a wonderful blend of electronic/jazz fusion.

And for the lighter side of things, ambient music is your friend. And even if you don't get along with it very well, The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld is too amazing to not listen to. Anyone will tell you this is so!

Happy hunting. Feel free to ask more, or PM me.

Animate, while I appreciate the input, I am looking for stuff aurally similar to what is in the OP--that is to say, gentler without being the nothingness that is minimal--which rules out most of Aphex Twin and a good deal of Squarepusher. I guess ambient might kind of describe the Nebulous track?

u-ziq and Locust Toybox are both pretty okay though

Although what you posted is a bit more eccentric, anything from Air has a beautiful electro ambient feeling to it. Air has always been one of my favorite electro groups because of that exact reason.

YouSendIt - File Sharing Transfer Delivery - PC FTP Replacement

The song I listed might be a little poppy for your taste, but their sound changes drastically on most of their albums (always retaining their ambience though) so I definitely recommend a listen to them.

If you haven't you need to download all of the scribble beats album from locust toybox. David Firth the guy behind Locust Toybox is also the same guy behind the flash cartoon Salad Fingers. Also you can just try searching last.fm or RADIO.BLOG.CLUB for stuph. I just found I'm The Manager and you might like "stretched face" and "drop hazard".
