Default Wipeout+I Survived a Japanese Game Show

Wipeout - ABC this summer, the fun starts here - ABC.com
I Survived a Japanese Game Show - ABC this summer, the fun starts here - ABC.com

Both shows are going to premiere on 24 June one after another. I don't know what to think about this. On the one hand, it will be great to see an MXC-esque game show on television again, but to have a knockoff of a Japanese game show precede an actual one? Something about that doesn't agree with me.

Apparently the former is produced by Endemol, producers of other over-the-top shows such as Deal or No Deal. That's reason enough for me to see that anyway.

Woooooow. I have no idea what I think of ISAJGS....It kinda looks interesting.

Dang, now I wanna get that song "Turning Japanese"...

& MXC was totally ruined by the stupid "dub". Thank goodness for Ninja Warrior & Unbeatable Banzuke.

Man what are you talking about? The campy dub is what made MXC great. Incidentally, the same guys dubbed Super Big Product Fun Show uncredited.

I'm aware SBPFS was done by the same guys, which was ALRIGHT...But I still would've liked to hear what they were actually saying.

I'm not saying MXC was unwatchable (some of the stuff they had to do was great), it's just I wanted to see what they were really saying.

Wipeout : Hey, we had a gameshow called Wipeout over here. It was nothing like this though...I like the look of it. It's more Takeshi's Castle (your MXC) than Ninja Warrior based. I don't like the fact that they can get up and continue when they've been knocked into the water/mud/whatever. It makes it a little watered down. And how is this a 'reality series'?
I Survived A Japanese Gameshow : You know that Saturday Night Live sketch with the Japanese gameshow? That looks eerily similar to this. And I will love it.

And there's one, slightly less active show that ABC also have: Wanna Bet?
I'm going to like that for two reasons:
1) It's You Bet!/Wetten Dass?, which we haven't had since 1998!
2) Ant & Dec are hosting it. Yeah, it's a little weird for a UK presenting duo to present a US show, but they've been able to convert no-hope formats into quite good TV.

The page for it on ABC suggests that it's hosted by the same guy from that skit.

I watched a couple episodes of the original show. You aren't missing much but I too wish I knew what they were saying most of the time.

They need to revive MXC, that was the only reason I would actually watch TV

These two shows seems to be interesting. Just like Takeshi's Castle/MXC.

The shows will premiere on Tuesday, two nights from now.

Just a reminder to myself.

Why do people call them game shows? They're just ways to humiliate and exploit the talents.

A game show is a television program in which one or more contestants participate in physical or intellectual challenges or games of chance, usually for rewards such as cash and/or prizes. I think these shows fit the description adaquately.

I apparently missed the memo that I Survived a Japanese Game Show was going to be a reality show. That is not what I signed up for.

At least Wipeout was worth the hour, though.
