Anyway, kimodanceteam.com or PH is really where you'll see anybody from Chicago. They are in a better state to help than anybody else. I hope you guys get some PIU moving, since I like the PIU community there | well DDR kind of took over before Pump it Up had a chance, but surprisingly when i go to Naperville, PIU PRO is always played, DDR is barely touched. I am sure the PIU community is actually moving on its own.

I've met more of the players from the downtown area, so I'm more familiar with them (although studies prevented me from playing THAT much).
There aren't enough (quality) PIU main machines in Chicago, and that's a travesty, considering the amount of enthusiastic players AND the presence of the USA's main supporter (MP83). Pro is a decent substitute, but it feels different and plays differently enough that you can tell that it's just not in the same spirit as PIU main series, and no one is denying that it's a different kind of game.

You put it into a different perspective, and it makes more sense. Again though, DDR has taken over, no one really wants to play some new game with different arrows, they want to play DDR, because everyone knows what it is, and has played it before. And the people that DO try the game, find it very difficult to change the way they play, for 5 arrows.
Myabe if there WAS more machines in the chicagoland area, it may have a chance.

as for pump vs. ddr popularity, the general public will stick with ddr since it is what they know, but a lot of the hardcore ddr players are getting into pump now for several reasons (harder charts with ITG no longer being an option for example). arcade operators are also more apt to purchase pump machines since they are a lot cheaper

It's true for USA and the EU that's for sure. DDR came here first, so the nostalgia and the popularity of the game will never die.
Outside of Japan, it seems to be the other way around in Asia and is certainly so in South America and Central America... but that's irrelevant.
NX2 is $1045 (without shipping, but it's cheap if you use Ground) as an upgrade kit WITH the USB hub and everything you need, so this is a great time to get an old Zero or Exceed 1-2 upgraded if you can find it. It's not that cheap for the machine, although the cheaper machine line is affordable at $4k? I can't remember the price of the cheaper machine line (GX though it's changing names now) and I remember that the FX (the machines NX and Pro premiered with) is $8-9k if you get it with NX2.

and I completely agree with you, Its getting harder then In the Groove as well (I mean look at VVV, its like impossible!). However its the same thing will happen to PIU, they may release a 2nd PRO, but if they dont, its really gonna die down like in the groove did (did not die down alot, but enough to take notice).

Other problem in Chicago is that not only is Chicago primarily a DDR and ITG city/region, but a lot of closed-minded dickheads too (namely, Naperville). Plus on top of that, everyone is really spread out really wide, and machines are that much more far and few between.
And funny you mention the Addison D&B, I'm usually there a good amount, but NO ONE plays there (well, I haven't been there recently anyway). Besides one other person that may go now and then, I was looking for more people to vouch for me about Zero NOT being the latest version (the techs insisted otherwise, regardless of the proof I've shown them).

The only complaint I ever got from the gaming manager was that it's Corporate's descision. Well wow.

...Maybe? | |

Probably swing by there during the week to check it out.

There's hope if even Gold Coast managed to turn their two-year old Zero into NX2, I guess. The only annoying part is getting the USB sticks...

Also when I go to D&B I make it a point to NOT play the Pump machine there, it's a pile of crap.
