the SX machine is basically a GX machine with one sub-woofer and two coin doors instead of one. So it's just about like playing on a GX.

And by cleaning he probably means the pad is dirty inside and so is the machine... so you'll like be cleaning out a lot of dust to get the fans moving again and what not.

It has a smaller monitor too right? What size are the monitors on an SX?

Its the smallest screen a PIU machine has. Its a step below GX. Its about 29" as oppsed to the GX's 34" if I remember right...

I got a email back, he said $1000 for a machine, but the monitor no longer is working. I said, that sounds expensive to fix, so I declined it. If anyone else wants to take the offer, please go ahead. It was the guy that was selling the Perfect Collection machine the one that looks brand new with the Prex 3 Marquee.

I just got another email back. I was asking if her had any upgrades, and this is what he replied...

"You can buy an update for the pump it up to make it a DDR super nova it takes a little bit of work but's it's worth the price. "

that does not even sound possible... Did anyone else know this was possible?

Sounds to me like he is trying to rip you off. It probably is possible....but you would have to replace the pads. If that's the case, it wouldn't be worth it.

for first time Ebay users... look at all of the information ebay supplies you. Like their rating (displayed in percentage) if they're in the high 90s then most likely they're not going to be screwing people over...

Anyhow you could get the busted monitor machine provided you have an HDTV to go in with it... people have found creative ways to uh refurbish a DX machine with one.

actually I have been using ebay for 4 years. His percentage is high, so I am pretty sure he is telling the truth.

You would have to change the wiring around, put some parts and stuff in there (I'm sure the voltage for PIU and DDR probably don't match) get new pads...IMO, more work than it's worth.

As for that new monitor, I'd only be careful because LCD could have lag while plasma could have lag and more ghosting issues.

Haha I see a Konami Racing Jam in the background.

Circuit City's element brand LCD TVs seems fine for the game... I've played on this cab which has one :

no noticeable delay to my eyes... but to be totally confident... just bring maybe a laptop computer or something else with Pump on it and run it on maybe a store display (if they'll let you) or the TV you already own

how come so many DX cabs dont have ANY monitors?

Do they just die out, like the old IIDX monitors?

it costs more to replace the original than to buy a LCD or Plasma TV and stick it in there. The DX machine was discontinued on the release of PREX1. The original monitors have issues with the bulb dieing... a lot. But some ops tend to move games a lot which the instruction manual states not to do.... causes the bulbs to burn out quicker from my understanding and then they spend $400 more to replace it.

ya, I got you on that. He wont give me a DX, so does the same rule apply ofr a normal PIU machine, can I just take out the old, and put a new one in there?

yes you can, however removal of the old monitor and having something that fits are another story... you could just buy a replacement arcade monitor but expect to pay $300 or more... the difference is with the SX/GX line, the monitor hardly ever wears out as it's just like one of the tubed PC monitors... I've never had a PC monitor die on me.... nor have I come across a SX or GX with a ocmpletely dead monitor.

But in case it is a SD/SX/GX with a dead monitor... I say if you are unexperienced with removing arcade VGA monitors.... don't do it. There is a huge risk of fatal electric shock (even if it's been off for a week)

Chances are however that you know someone who can remove it with experience.
