Default General Pump it Up Discussion

Any topics about Pump it Up you want to talk/ask about that you don't think require a whole new thread can be posted here.

Though try to keep it related to PIU.

No PIU vs DDR vs ITG vs GH vs IIDX vs DJM etc discussion. OK?

I'll start.

Do you think the BGA preview in the past 3 mixes has been entirely necessary?

I never minded about the BGA Preview. Looks better and all, though IMO it was a bit too big in Zero and sometimes the videos took a bit time to load making the navigation slower, but nothing serious (I have OTHER complains about the Zero interfase, though).

Nice idea, I hope people make good use of this

Sure it makes the game look flashy, but I think that was mostly the case in Zero.

Without the the BGA preview in Zero, the theme would look extra boring.

And it got smaller and smaller in NX to NX2, to the point where it's just some small square you don't bother watching most of the time. Not saying it should be taken out in the next mix, maybe just make it more integrated into the theme.

Or something lol.

I don't see a big difference between the BGA preview from NX and NX2, they both look the same (size wise) to me ;P

Also it's nice to have the preview like that. Since videos are smaller, I imagine they take less time to load and navigation doesn't get interrupted. Making it bigger would make interfase too flashy and kind of slow, like in Zero.

Yeah but with the space gained by trashing the BGA preview they could add more songs

And also make BGAs for the remixes. Which has purpose.

Taking out the BGA preview wouldn't make a big difference in the amount of songs, IMO.

I mean, Nexcade kept the BGA Preview with NX and NX2, and in both versions they featured a lot more songs than Freevolt in all the versions they programmed (including Anothers, Remixes AND Full Songs).

With how much empty space there is on the HD for all of the mixes from X1 to NX2, space has NEVER been a problem... the reason we have removals from K-Pop is for licensing issues. No idea about the Banyas though. BGA previews do take space, but there's a lot of empty space that could be used.

example: NX2 1.54 has roughly 21GB of used space. The hard drive is 80gb.

Since I tend to pick what I want to play based on how interesting the BG is, I think it's nice to have.

Also, makes for something to watch while waiting for the clock to tick down if you're recovering between songs.

Doesn't deserve it's own thread, but after playing with Fruity Loops 8 for about 2 weeks I made this:

Canon in Air

Let me know if you guys like it.

I think that some NX & NX2 BGvideos looks like old BGanimations for example: faster Z, with doctor#1, money, etc...

they dont look like videos at all...

hey what do you think about exceed 2 interface compared to NX2 interface??? in my opinion Exceed 2 is better they just need to put calories info and bga preview and thats all hehehe

I can't really imagine something like Faster Z or Witch Doctor#1 being done with the old BGA animation techniques. They're in high res and you can see some complex coloring and shading there.

Exceed's interfase is still fine with me, though the navigation on it is still slow and doesn't let you pick difficult level if time runs out.

Hmmm... I liked the sleek and colorful look of NX2 rather than the dull gray of X2's... not to mention NX2's interface is MUCH more n00b-friendly than X2's (more info on the song, and not having the level number tucked away in a corner where no one will look)

The problem with the whole channel thing is that if someone changes their mods, they've changed channels. It's also really unfriendly to new players -- it effectively hides two thirds of the song list.
