You should start at a real PIU arcade. If you played a lot DDR, you wouldnt have problem with Pump, just remember this:
1. Use 2x or 3x
2. Start with songs like Caution, Forever Love, Beethoven (Normal)
3. If you have stepmania, learn how to read difficult patterns.
I hope this will help you. Good Luck!

the only problem is the lack of arcade-idge in the area where i am. I do know of one arcade we go to sometimes in certain travels, so i can try to get there if we go, but toher than that, i guess i'm just stuck w/ the ps2 version.

Yeah, as people have said, the USA pad isn't that good, get one off the internet.

Cobalt Fluxes technically work, we made some cboxes for em. Maybe if you've never played Pump before it's not so bad, but the spacing is very different from the arcade and thus you'll just get frustrated trying to adjust to it. Obviously I'd recommend playing the arcade version but your situation makes it difficult.

But, just jump around songs and see what you get a good feel for. As people say, start on hard and just have a enjoy while playing. As you keep playing you'll be able to get a feel for what your Pump level is.

Also, although some may disagree, I recommend not turning off stage break. I think it's too much of a crutch and if you rely too much on passing songs no stage break, you won't be as good as a player who does play with stage break. Hell, at first all my machines were stage break and I used to say "oh, lifebar is not important in Pump", but then they all had stage break on when they upgraded. I sucked so much, but with enough time I was able to build myself up and I'm definitely a better player now. I'd probably be much worse if I was still dependent on stage break. Of course, there's no problem turning off stage break if you want to practice a difficult song, work your way up so that you can beat it with stage break.

Umm, I hope that helps!

Dont lie to him. PIU and DDR are way different. For one the DDR metal pad are way smaller then the PIU pads. Next its my option that PIU songs are way harder then DDR could ever be. and going from up,up,up,left-up,right-up,down-up. (to) top left, bottom right, middle, bottom left, top left on times 3 nightmare is hard.
